Outstanding Breakfast at SuperChef

by Mike D » Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:17 am

Becky and I just enjoyed one of the best breakfasts we've had in Louisville. We went to the SuperChef on Lower Brownsboro, in the Chicago Gyros location. After navigating through the maze of orange cones, we sat down to food that was expertly prepared and presented. We started with excellent dark roast coffee served in great big cups. We shared a veggie sandwich on a pretzel croissant (served with perfectly-prepared hash browns) and an order of heavenly beignets. Our server was very attentive - she kept that coffee coming! Another table had luscious-looking red velvet pancakes and eggs benedict. Made me want to go back for seconds.

SuperChef is now on our short list of go-to breakfast places. Next time we may try his "new" location at the Seafood Connection in Chenoweth Square.

Very good to know. They are close to home, but I have been timid to go there, more as a pox on the property and less because of anything SuperChefs has done.

I shall give it a try, tomorrow morning perhaps!

We went last weekend and came away quite impressed ourselves. Don't let the funky location keep you away.

Two points:

1. The SuperChefs in the Seafood Connection in St. Matthews (right opposite Majid's in Chenoweth Square) is open, I think. I saw a sign the other day.

2. I reviewed this a while back, inspired by the last time the forum talked it up. Review here:

I had the eggs Benedict served on grit cakes and the granola encrusted French toast. Both were excellent.

We braved the mess on lower Brownsboro this morning to have brekkie at SuperChef's, and it was just as good as always. And truthfully, RonnieD, I believe they've managed to break the "pox" on that property, as it's much brighter and pleasant to eat a meal since they moved in there.

I was just coming in here to say that we were told they're now open in the Seafood Connection at Chenoweth Plaza, but it looks like somebody beat me to it.

The best news about that for us is we can walk to the SuperChef's in St. Matthews, which means a great breakfast and exercise. Yay.

We couldn t wait to head to Frankfort Ave this morning after reading so many glowing reports. Sorry, we can t comment on the food as we turned on our heels and departed quickly after viewing and feeling:

1. Weed invested outside
2. Dirty, Dirty Windows
3. Filthy Floor
4. Insufficient Air Conditioning

The cooking area didn t look too appetizing either after the "4" above.

Never again,

I ate at the Seafood Connection location and did not notice any of the four points above. However, I'll admit that my standards are probably pretty low for those four items. I don't remember the a/c being an issue; of course, I was there in the early AM.

I did get a bit of a weird vibe when I first walked in to the restaurant. The layout of the tables and the cooking area--read atmosphere-feel a little strange considering the quality of food that is served. Additionally, I found the smell of seafood moderately off-putting for a breakfast joint. So, I was fairly apprehensive as I waited for my food order.

But, after the food came out, any and all apprehension went away. It was sincerely some of the best breakfast entrees I've had. Kudos to SuperChef!

There's a SuperChef Groupon available today, FYI.

Also, I'm confused - are there 2 locations or 3? The website refers to 2 locations - one on lower Brownsboro and one in Chenoweth Square (Seafood Connection). I see above someone mentioned Frankfort Ave. Is there a 3rd location somewhere on Frankfort, too?

I think Jim was generalizing Clifton and Crescent Hill under "Frankfort," Lauren. There are only the two.

Makes total sense. I need to fully caffeinate before posting. ;)

Also, thanks for the link fix! HTML isn't my strong suit (I don't think even caffeine would help).

Hol. EEe. Sh*t. SuperChef Brownsboro Road = amazeballs. Fresh, delicious, beautifully plated, well served food. I swear it's the best breakfast I've had in YEARS. I am not kidding. Get thee hence. Service was quick and skillful, too (thanks, Stephanie!). Exec chef Rodney of this location really brought it home.

we had: eggs benedict with mornay over roasted red pepper grit cakes, and: sliders with house made sausage, bacon, sunny side up egg and cheese. no problems whatsoever with cleanliness or odors at this location. happy crowd, happy cooks, happy server. WOW. P.S. hash browns crispy, well seasoned and not over or underdone.

I haven't been this excited about a restaurant in a long time.

Told ya so. I was trying to keep it hush hush because I was certain once the work got out, they would be on a ridiculous wait like Wild Eggs has on the weekends.
