The Miracle Feast

by Stephen D » Wed Jul 25, 2012 11:06 am

On August 16, Majid's will host a dinner revolving around the miracle berry. When taken, this fruit silences the sour flavor receptors on the tounge for about an hour. One can take a bite out of lime and it becomes the sweetest kool-aid ever.

A few years back, I executed the first composed meal involving this product with Bon Vivant Savant at the Rausch Planetarium. Why not do it again in a restaurant setting?

The Format: We're imitating the famous feasts of Careme and Escoffier, so publican-style seating is a must. The guest will leave with six new best friends, as people tend to chat over what they are experiencing due to the fruit's effects. We will be serving both family-style and butler-passed dishes, as there simply will be too much food and drink for it all to fit on the table. The guests will be encouraged to try everything once, eat the miracle fruit tablet and then try everything again- to enjoy the transformation. That makes for 8 tastes of drink and 18 tastes of food! A feast, indeed...

As always, I'll be tweaking this thing up until the day of execution, so expect some minor changes.

A New Price!

by Stephen D » Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:17 am

So...

I was having a conversation with Majid about this last night. It went something like this:

Majid: 'So, you want to charge $75 per person for this?'

Me: 'I've costed the menu out and these are industry standard margins- and it is a one-of-a-kind meal. Quite novel.'

Majid: 'But it's for foodies, right?'

Me: 'To say the least. The last miracle fruit dinner was $65 and didn't have the drinks.'

Majid: 'So let's charge less- I'm not worried about the margin, just take care of the people.'

So there you have it. The new price is $50 per person...
