I just returned home after one of my visits to family in Louisville. Thanks to the forum I was fortunate to enjoy several stellar meals.
From Mojito's I fondly remember the Braised Short-Ribs and the Dates. Thier signature drink, a Mojito was first class too, providing some relief from the heat. Speaking of the heat, I had hoped for a respite from the constant 105 degrees in western Arkansas, but nooo. Louisville just had to be equally hot breaking records each day I was there!
LaCoop served fantastic escargot equal to those from the defunct L&N and their bread pudding with Bourbon ice cream rocked. The one disappointment was the unavailibility of the Coq Au Vin. They also introduced me to the holy grail of cocktail cherries - Luxardo, in my Manhattan. Already have several jars ordered for the house. Service was wonderful from a very attentive young lady and I enjoyed the energy of a crowded dining area.
Then there was Decca. Duck Liver Terrine, Mussels and braised Beef Cheeks. Wow. The taste, presentation, service and ambiance were deserving of a return visit.
We enjoyed Stephen D's hospitality at Majid's where we had a nightcap. Stephen's enthusiasm for his craft was just as infectious in person as his posts on the forum. He also prepared me a Manhattan with a new Vermouth and his own twist which was outstanding.
My last day was reserved for the Suburban fish fry on South 3rd which has been a family tradition for decades. Can't get that or White Castles in my sleepy little rivertown.
One of my many regrets, so much food - so little time, was being unable to visit Leah's truck. It's on my list so I will get there.
I hope all forumites that live in Louisville realize how lucky you are to live where such good food, and such variety is accessible every day. I'm lucky just to get to visit. As Dorothy said "there's no place like home".
Thanks again to all for providing the info about all the great places to dine in Louisville!
P.S.
While in the neighborhood I passed Taco Punk and noticed the offensive Porshe wasn't parked there. Made me feel so much better.
