Looking for something new...

by Chris Lindy » Sat Jul 07, 2012 3:26 pm

My wife and I are going out tomorrow to celebrate 6 years of marriage. We've visited many of the top Louisville haunts, but are looking for something new. My wife is somewhat restricting and isn't a fan of Asian food. Her preference would be somewhere that had a good pasta dish, but I think she could be sold on a really good chicken dish or even a top-notch steak. We've hit all of the upscale Italian places that I know of (Volare, Porcinis, Vincenzo's), so I'd prefer not to make a return visit tomorrow.

Our last couple of celebration dinners/date nights have been on Market in NuLu (Garage Bar, La Coop). Anything out that way? She wasn't enticed by the menu at Rye and we've already visited Harvest (meh).

Corbett's, Jack Fry's, Lilly's or Seviche are all great special occasion places.

Chris,
My first choice would be Theatre Square Marketplace. Chef Dallas does both excellent pasta and meat dishes, and the atmosphere is great for an anniversary.
In NuLu there's Decca ( as long as you can reserve upstairs only- main level is very loud). And while Wiltshire on Market is not new you don't mention that you've been. They do an excellent job also.
Happy Anniversary!

Gary's on Spring Street? We haven't been in awhile. Interesting building/interior.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. We ended up at Seviche on Dan's recommendation. Was surprised to learn how many local establishments are closed on Sunday. I can't remember all the ones that were, but it seems like we had to dismiss at least three due to their schedules.

Seviche had an ecclectic mix of patrons Sunday... much more casual upscale than other similarly-priced Louisville eateries we've visited. Our service was a little off... slow to greet us, took drink orders THEN mentioned the wine specials when she returned from the bar, failed to bring our appetizer. Chalking it up to a bad night and/or one bad apple on the staff, but still disappointing. The churrascos were VERY good and there were at least two or three other entrees that interested me.
