Where to go for Salad Lunch today

by Gayle DeM » Sat Jul 07, 2012 10:47 am

Friends from out of town have just called. Want to meet for lunch in St. Matthews today. Want to have salad. Want some place like the Bristol. (Although they have driven eight miles to get here, another few miles to the Bristol on Hurstbourne is too much.) I suggested Coal's (great salads!), Nam Nam, Simply Thai. Help! and Thank you!

Nam Nam (like VK) was closed for a two-week vacation recently. I'm not sure they're back open. Simply Thai should do the trick, though. Or maybe Cafe Lou Lou would suit their "like the Bristol" wishes, even though it really isn't?

I think Chop Shop has a St. Matthews location. I really enjoy the downtown one. Not the Bristol, but defiantly a great place for salads.

That chop shop is so small I wouldn't want to eat in (and there might not really be an eat in option).

So we went to Cafe Lou Lou, St. Matthews. (Thank you, Robin.) At the suggestion of Carol C. (who just happened to be there) I had the Gazpacho and Caprese Salad as did one of my friends. That was probably the best gazpacho I've had in the past decade! (Of course, the perfectly ripe tomatoes helped a whole lot.) :D The other friend had the chicken wrap and she was most pleased with her choice.

While I love the salads from Chop Chop, I've never eaten inside. Like Robin F., I'm not sure if they do have an eat in option, but even if they do, I don't think it would be the place for a reunion lunch. (I hadn't seen these friends in over six years.)

Gayle, so glad you had what I had! Like you, I thought the Gazpacho was some of the best I've ever had--no flavors were overpowering so you could really taste the tomatoes and I loved the texture. Also, totally enjoyed the Caprese Salad. It was a perfect meal for a HOT summer day! Hope you all had a great time!

A day late....Chop Shop does have tables inside. Little atmosphere, but plenty clean and nice. I get carryout there often. It's a chain, but Jason's Deli has a nice salad bar. Meridian Cafe has good salads and a great menu.
