Here's the chapter and verse, from Maggie's posts on my Facebook page:

Maggie de la Torre wrote: You know the old saying, "timing is everything". We are entering our 25th year ( unbelievable!) and have decided this will be the last. Our kids are in LA, NY , and London and we hardly get to see them. (Our son in London recently made us grandparents!)

Also, it's time to do a facelift on De la Torre's, and frankly, at our age ;(, it really doesn't make economic sense......it is bittersweet, but this is a young person's game.... We will enjoy this last year, and hopefully see you all in the next chapter.

La Bodega has become the favorite haunt of Nanc and I's over the past few weeks since we now have our evenings free together. We have long admired Maggie and Miguel and are in awe of the fact they have been doing it for nearly 25 years. Their food is simply prepared, wonderfully flavored, and incredibly reasonable. Miguel can be found in the kitchen every single moment their doors are open and is a man of passion and pride. Maggie, in our experience, is the consumate host and will be missed. I am trying to refrain from expressing my frustration that they are not supported more vigorously by our "great" dining town, but I'll leave that for another day. We just wanted to tip our hat publcly to them both and encourage Louisville diners to stop by, enjoy a great meal, and thank them for their wonderful contribution to our local dining scene.

La Bodega is also a favorite late night haunt - sad news but at least it's a closing by choice.

This is a very big loss. I grew up around them (I actually engaged in a scuffle with Miguel and Maggie when I was a young punk hanging out at Twice Told and acting like an ass, but I'm sure they don't remember [at least I reeeally hope they don't]). They've weathered a lot, and I've had some wonderful memories there as an adult patron. My heart goes out to you, Maggie and Miguel! Your legacy will thrive, but nothing will ever replace you.

If you are going out, make it in the time and manner of your choosing. Both will be missed, but it's the right kind of missed.

My wife and I got engaged there in 2002! Lots of fun, great food, and great memories.

Are they closing immediately or will they be open a while longer? I would love to have one last meal there.

Thanks!

Certainly not immediately, Corey. In the Facebook post quoted above, note that Maggie said, "We are entering our 25th year ( unbelievable!) and have decided this will be the last. ... We will enjoy this last year, and hopefully see you all in the next chapter."

That strongly implies to me that they're not closing immediately.

Thanks, Robin! Sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion there. I'm going to get there ASAP.

Here's Maggie's response, Corey ... again, not imminent, but not too specific:

Maggie De La Torres wrote: ... we just made this decision about a week ago, so nothing is imminent ....everything is business as usual....we wanted our employees and tenants and our regulars to know our plans and to be assured that they will have plenty of notice before the building is sold or the restaurant changes hands.

I'm sure part of the decision as to when they will close will depend on when they get a buyer for the property and what kind of terms are in the deal. Like most real estate dealings the sooner you find a buyer the sooner the property transfers ownership.
