River Bend Winery

Had lunch there earlier this week. At ~11:55, we were one of the first (maybe the first) table for lunch. Obviously, we were seated pretty quickly.

I had been 3 times before, and while the food had always been good, the service was lacking, to put it politely. Under new management, you say? Let's give it another go.

Not a good idea....

Ordered our drinks at pretty much straight-up noon (2 teas, 1 water). The waitress (and she is the only one in sight) disappears for about 5 minutes...finally returns with drinks (lemon in my tea, when I asked for no lemon - not a huge deal). We ordered lunch (this is about 12:05-12:10) - 2 Bahn Mis & a club. By this time, 3 or 4 other parties had wandered in. The waitress disappears again - this time for quite a while. I need a refill - she's nowhere in sight. We sit & wait (at least the conversation is good)...the waitress eventually emerges from the kitchen and flitters about some tables, taking more orders...still no refills for us.

Eventually, at 12:35, our food arrives. It is cold (to be expected for the club, but the Bahn Mi was advertised as warm, and at some point it was...just not any more). Now, I've never worked in a restaurant in any capacity, but 30 minutes to make 3 sandwiches seems like a pretty long time - especially when you're the first or second table seated for the day.

While all this is happening, there are 2 people (a man, and a woman who arrived shortly after us) at the bar tapping away on laptops and obviously affiliated with the establishment in some way. The man is reaching over the counter to refill his drink (must be nice), so if it wasn't obvious before, it is now.

Perhaps this is a staffing issue? One waitress to run the bar patrons and all the tables seems like a lot. As a manger, maybe you pitch in and run some food?? Instead, the man leaves and the woman remains seated at the bar oblivious.

All in all, it was well over an hour for 3 underwhelming sandwiches and cold, limp fries (mostly due to the long hold time).

New management or not, we won't be giving it another try. Seems like they're a winery who just happened to have some space for a restaurant and decided to give it a try on a lark - not a lot of effort. It's too bad, because there is some potential in the food, especially with better execution. But it's not worth it for the experience.

My 2 cents (although this is probably a dime's worth!).
