"Completely different from a music festival, the Fête de la Musique is above all a free popular fête, open to any participant (amateur or professional musicians) who wants to perform in it. This Music day allows the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere. It aims at a large audience, working to popularise musical practice for young and not so young people from all social backgrounds. It gives an opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music."

Celebrate music and the Summer Solstice at Ghyslain on East Market Street in the heart of NuLu.

Grab a sauvignon blanc, a croque monsieur, and a patisserie at this wonderful Quebecois café, chocolatier, & neighborhood gem.

Join Parisians and other hot metropoles around the world in this annual festival of spontaneous street music and dancing.

Ghyslain, 721 E. Market Street (behind Creation Garden’s headquarters.)

Oui Oui !

We are super excited that Dane Waters will be joining us for a performance. She will be our first live musical act in our second year of ringing in the summer solstice with Ghyslain on Market for the Fete de la Musique ! We hope to add more in years to come - Fete de la Musique is a really magical, amazing event when the whole city participates. I've been lucky enough to see three in Paris :D

Last year, the response was deliciously overwhelming. Over 100 people - francophone and anglophone - joined us and the wonderful people at Ghyslain stayed late and pulled out all the stops (pun intended?) for the attendees. Manager Kelly Miracle runs a well organized cafe and Chef Ghyslain even made the trip from Indiana to hang out during the festivities. Some people stayed from beginning to end, while others trickled in and out at their whims. AFL held a free raffle for bilingual dictionaries, French music CDs, and other goodies... and let us not forget the fabulous deejay with eclectic Frenchy tunes for all to enjoy. We will be doing that again this year, too. Last year, we were super lucky to learn that Magnolia Photo Booth Company http://www.magbooth.com/ across the street had their photo booth bus parked right outside. Market Street is always full of delightfully spontaneous surprises and we expect as much this year.

I only hope that this year the weather is as perfect as it was last year. Hope to see you there.

Cheers !

C'est une occasion magnifique pour Louisville, Melissa. I think the Alliance Francaise is on to something here! Too bad I'll be out of town, but I wish you all good luck. The French theme in food and music has been much needed here in Louisville. The recent additions of Ghyslain, Louis le Francais, and La Coop have come to the rescue of a city that was so rich in culinary choices, but so feeble in French cuisine and ambiance.

Our new website is officially launched http://aflouisville.org/en/home and my first update was about this very event: http://aflouisville.org/en/news/detail/ ... sique_2012

Much of the site is still under construction for content but we'll be tightening it up as time permits us volunteers. We're proud of the work Kevin Bayer of http://www.atechstudio.com and Julie Hill of http://cargocollective.com/80percent did for our organization !
