Thursday artisan beer nights at Caffe Classico

by Robin Garr » Mon Nov 05, 2007 4:23 pm

We were in Caffe Classico for a Sunday coffee and New York Times run yesterday, and I noticed a big draft beer keg setup over on one side. Turns out that Tommie is ordering a series of "interesting" beers, mostly European, cycling to a new brand as they run out; they're being sold at reasonable prices all week, and unreasonably bargain prices (just a small markup over cost) on Thursday evenings.

A couple of weeks ago they had a great high-gravity Belgian beer, Delirium Tremens. Currently the keg is Danish Carlsberg ($5 a glass regular, $2 on Thursday evenings). Tommie says he'll probably put on a Leffe Amber from Bruge, Belgium, when the Carlsberg runs dry.

Caffe Classico just keeps getting more and more interesting, it seems to me. I know I'm fond of it because of proximity - with Heine's Frankfort, it's my neighborhood coffee shop - but with the artisan pizzas and evening bistro-style menu and now this beer program, it just gets better and better.

Tommie also mentioned that Mark Bierman has joined Patrick Gosden as sous chef at Caffe Classico.

Not to pick nits but Leffe is from Leuven, Belgium, not Burge and is part of InBev. It is not a bad draft though.

good to see good beer growing

tremens to carlsberg is a helluva backward shuffle though

like filet to ground beef
Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. D Barry
