Sweet Cici's...errr...Lula's?

by RonnieD » Wed Jun 06, 2012 11:26 am

Anybody know why the Sweet Cici's at the corner of Bardstown Road and Eastern Parkway became Lula's? I noticed this a few weeks ago, but it was reinforced the other day as I passed by. I thought it was odd as the Sweet Cici's seemed to do extremely well (location, location, location) and had not been there terribly long.

Per the teenagers inside, the guy 'bought out' his Franchise Agreement with Cici's, and now owns it.....and thus, changed the name.

Can't see most of these places staying afloat, as they're now on every corner...

...but that particular location seems to CRUSH it, for obvious reasons w/ people always out & about down there.

I believe that the former Carolina Shrimp Company location behind BBC in St Matthew's is also now a Lula's Frozen Yogurt....

Is this like a 32 Degrees? ( self-serve frozen low-fat yogurt with tons of toppings). If so, I have to agree- we have two less than 1 mile of our house ( one Summit /one Tinseltown).

Is Lula's another chain then, or is this is a case of an owner who says "oh, I see how you did that" and then drops his franchise and tries to replicate on his own?

That's tough to do period, much less in a bloated market. As I am quickly learning, chains have a lot of systems in place that make what they do profitable by taking advantage of things like buying power and pooled marketing.

But, again, location, location, location....

It seems like the the yogurt hasn't been as good since it became Lula's. Also, they stopped offering fresh blueberries as a topping....."due to cost" (per an employee)

I've been going across the street to Cefiore.

There are 3 of these yogurt shops within 1/4 mile of each other on Veterans Pkwy in Clarksville, in front of Walmart. Two within just a couple hundred yards near Chuy's, and a third near Papa Murphy's and Qdoba. Sweet n Swirly is the only local, and the only one with non-dairy sorbet that's really non-dairy, so I choose to go there. I've been pleased so far. A couple of people told me they are 5 cents more expensive though. I'd still rather buy local.

I'm also not sure it's much of a coincidence that 2 of them are practically bookending Weight Watchers.

I personally have to say that I likeMenchies in the shelbyville Rd. Plaza. (and they have the weight watcher points labeled on each flavor). I'm not a fan of Choices or 32 Degrees. Chain or not, it has to taste good and not come put of the machine watery!

These places do seem to be springing up like acne on a pubescent teens face!
We have tryed most of them and I would have to say that the best of this lot is a solid tie between Cefiore and Menchie's. Both use fresh ingredients and Menchie's is always spotless. :D 8)
Choice's yogurt is just horrible amd 32 Degrees isn't much better.

Healthy Fit at UofL (4th & Cardinal) is closed until next April as well... large posterboard sign has been up in their window since late last week.
