has anyone been to Saigon Cafe in St. Matthews lately ? --they've received some bad reviews, especially for service, on Urban Spoon ...

I try not to pay too much attention to UrbanSpoon or Yelp reviews, for the same reasons as I prefer Oscar's Hardware to Home Depot. But that said, isn't Saigon Cafe the former Lemongrass under a new name and management but with a similar model? If so, I cannot imagine going there when you've got the Nam Nam option for Vietnamese and the Simply Thai option for Thai so nearby.

we've been to Simply Thai, and Nam Nam is too small (we're a group of 12-15)

Good point! Does it have to be Asian? The El Tarasco in the same shopping center as Saigon Cafe has good Mexican fare, is affordable, and plenty of room.

My wife and her friends LOVE Saigon.. They like to keep it their "little secret". They go and it's not crazy packed and they have a ball. I like it too. Have liked it better than VK at times. The service was pretty wack a while back but has settled. They were understaffed and the owners had to man the stations. They spoke little english so there were communication issues. That has been settled as they hired more people. Everyone is very friendly there. I dig it for a casual dinner.

Had a great Thai Curry from Saigon recently for Takeout.

It's a nice quick option for Thai/Viet if you don't feel like trekking to the Southend, or entering the circus that is Simply Thai on most nights.

The circus should be eased in about a month, as they took over the store next to them, and are putting in a bar and expanding the dining room.

That's going to turn it into an impressive venue. Thanks for the info, Andrew.
