Suggestion near Rupp

by Charles W. » Fri Jun 01, 2012 12:03 pm

I am meeting relatives at a convention being held at Rupp Arena on Sunday for dinner (in this case, dinner means supper). Right now we're headed to Applebee's. Any suggestions for a place (with at least some vegetarian options) nearby?

This does not meet your qualifications for Sunday dinner but it reminded me of a place that I used to eat in Lexington. It is called the Chicken Casa. I HIGHLY recommend you stop in if you are in the Lexington area. Seriously just take some home with you after applebees.

Basically it is a little Mexican restaurant in a small strip mall off on Nicholasville road. We stopped in by accident one day after missing a turn. The specialize in grilled "veracruz" chicken. This is what you order, what you get on the side doesn't matter. Everything is cheap, but very tasty.

I'm not exaggerating when I say this...it is the best chicken I've ever eaten. It will blow your mind. I used to go every single week and there was never anyone there when I went and I was always scared to death they would be closed the next week.

However I just checked on Urban Spoon and looks like they are still getting good reviews.

Honestly any hot byters who are in Lexington please check this place out.

Banana Leaf on High Street is supposed to be decent Indian, and that pretty much implies veggie options.

I second Bombay/Banana Leaf. Pretty good Indian.

I'd also recommend Natasha's or Alfalfa's for vegetarian, but I don't believe either is open for dinner on Sundays.

If pizza/Italian is agreeable, Pazzo's is right down the street from Rupp at 385 S Limestone. It is above average pizza with some other options for those not in the mood for pizza.
