Tough one to solve - Help needed

by Ron Taglieri » Mon May 21, 2012 10:09 pm

I am usually pretty independent finding places to go in town, but need forum help on this one. Here is the challenge:

My son is graduating high school this Saturday afternoon and I have family that includes a total party of 11, including 2 seniors and 3 boys - 5,4, and 2. Looking for help on the following:

One Saturday evening meal - relatively early given the kid's age
Sunday brunch
Monday lunch/dinner - Memorial Day

Any ideas? Large size and youth of kids makes this a tough putt.

Thanks in advance

Bucca De Beppo is always fun, and good for a large group that includes young children.

Any particular area(s) of town? Usually with a larger group, location is a consideration.

I am an East Ender, but willing to go anyplace that fits the needs.

Like Buca di Beppo suggestion

Irish Rover would be fun for Saturday night, for an early dinner for all ages. Would not be an option for Sunday or Monday.

Rocky's in Jeffersonville does a great job with large groups including children - my family has done a couple of birthday parties there. The staff is great, the menu appeals to all (and is, in my opinion, really good food) and the entertainment of walking down to the river to kick and toss stones is a nice distraction. Ask for a window section and you face a large glass wall with the Ohio River and Louisville skyline to warm your hearts. And from the east end, it's practically as quick to reach as it is from my highlands home - wrap around off the first exit across the Kennedy or 2nd st bridges.

Ron,

Congrats- my daughter is graduating too. :D

Some thoughts:
Check with Will at Westport General Store to see if they are doing anything special for the weekend- the little ones would be good there and they have a bands sometimes.

Guacamole is very good for little ones and you can enjoy their great menu, We took a mixed age group there for Oaks and it was a big hit with everyone. Cristina will likely take a reservation if you call and ask.

Have you thought about catering something in? Taking littles out that many times in a row can be stressful for everyone. You could do something like Marks Feed one meal and make it easy on yourselves.

I ditto Jackie's recommendation. We did that many times with our whole family when the kids were little.

And It's worth taking note that it's locally owned! The first space began in a smaller "word of mouth" location. Louisdiana has been a fan of Rocky's for a few decades:

Ron,

For Brunch on Sunday I would recommend Bristol. You can probably get a room upstairs for all to sit in or on first floor toward the back as a group.

The other ideas are not bad either.

Lunch/Dinner Monday you might try KT's... Or Coals Pizza. They have an upstairs room too.

An early dinner on Saturday. You like Italian then try Tuscany. Good food, solid service. They can accommodate a party your size too.

I will put Equus/Jack's Lounge into the mix too. We often have multi-generational groups- there is somethin on the menu for everyone (and we can always get some simple pasta or chicken fingers for the kids)

Outdoors for one meal? Mike Linnings? Captain Quarters? Kingfish at Zorn has a great outdoor space by the river. Thinking of the younger ones:-)

I like the idea of Captain's Quarters. North End Cafe Highlands will take reservations and has easy parking. Good variety for everyone.Ditto's is good for groups. Don't grimace, but we took a large group to Puccini's once and it was quite good and very casual. I love Guaca Mole, but Chuy's might be easier for a large group (and quicker). Lots to keep kids entertained.
