I am going to define amateur as anyone who hasn't placed in a professional BBQ competition. You can be a professional chef and still be an amateur when it comes to true "Q". So any chefs out there that want to throw their hat into the ring feel free. We still have a few spots left!

Damn, Wish I wasn't going to be out of town...Sounds like fun...I'd love to kick back with a couple of brews and watch this deal go down. Curious what kind of meat you'll be providing ?...Please God don't make them cook those slabs-the-size-of-a-barn-door-untrimmed-dinosaur-bone-spare-ribs. :(

What can a non-competitor expect from this festival? Do we get to taste the competitors BBQ or is BBC doing a special bbq menu? Are there other breweries offering brews? Details?

For the non competitors lets start with the Brew's. We will have a full range of our core beers as well as 4-5 seasonals on tap throughout the event. For the blues Big Poppa Stampley will be playing from 3-4:30 and Dirty Church Revival playing from 5-8. And for the BBQ's we will be doing a pig roast and will also be smoking brisket and the always delicious turkey ribs. There will be some vegetarian options available for those that don't enjoy carnivorous BBQ. If the competitors would like to sample out some BBQ they are of course more than welcome to though not a requirement. Several local celebrities will be on hand for the judging and mingling during the competition.
A cornhole tournament will be starting at 4 which will be on a first to sign up basis day of. The Jack Daniels girls will be on hand passing out samples and merch. This is a dog friendly event so we invite people to bring out their pets and enjoy the day with us. And for those that want to stick around at 10:00 Slow Charleston will be playing on the patio till 1:30am.

This sounds like a lot of fun! We love our Q, and a pig roast???? Yeah, think I have to be there! Question: Pepperwood. Looks from the logo like the same Pepperwood that was on Lyndon years ago? Also, I thought I heard that the owner of FABD was from Pepperwood. Ribs sure taste like it, but now I'm confused!

That Pepperwood is one and the same. The former owner of FABD did work for Pepperwood. He was then at Cyclers Cafe and he (Kevin) actually did the ribs for my rehearsal dinner but thats neither here nor there. They were awesome.. but anyways. Not sure where Kevin has gone to now.

Can't wait! Mike is gonna practice on some willing guinea pigs on sunday.
It made fathers day easy, as it was a great excuse to purchase a smoker.
Thanks Chris! After having a blast at the barking at the brewpub bbc event I know this will be fun for everybody.

I'm definitely in (as a non-competitor!) Can you tell me how the pig roast will work? Meaning, will it be ready to serve at 3pm when the event starts? Or are you starting the roast at 3 and it'll be ready some time that evening?

Prolly wouldn't have hurt Andrew.

Kinda strange we never heard any results/feedback from this event...<shrugs>...I'm left to think perhaps the only interest was in free advertising. :?

Well it was certainly a bunch of guys having a good time. Mike's chicken was judged as darn near perfect, but his ribs were way down the list as too spicy. The original plan as I heard it was to give 7 of your best bones for judging, but they ended up taking all the meat because they ended up with many more judges. I was disappointed I didn't get to sample others enteries. You will be pleased to know his weren't "fall off the bone tender" but I certainly didn't get the spicey part.
They referred to the back row as amateur island, cause none of those guys really work the circuit.
The team that won was drinking in the bar until 11:30 am! They were called "get ugly early" I think. IMO it was a bunch of people chatting it up and listening to good music while hanging out with their pooches.
Which was exactly as intended.
Note to self, no chipotle in rub next year!
Btw the cream ale I was sampeling was the perfect summer brew.
The pig roast was also impressive!

Sorry for the delay with the results been quite busy. The festivities went very well and I think everyone had a great time for a first time event it seemed to go well. There was actually a tie at the top between the Irish club and court BBQ team. We r sending both teams on to the New Palesine professional BBQ competition in late July. 2nd place went to Go Ugly Early who were indeed hangin at the bar long ader the other teams had gotten their meat. 3rd place went to cowboy bbq. We are very proud of all the competitors that day and thankful for all who came out. Can't wait till next year!
