About The Phoenix Hill Neighborhood Association

The Phoenix Hill Neighborhood Association, a non-profit neighborhood association created in 1975, has been a catalyst for revitalization in the East Downtown area. The Association was integral in the development of two major housing complexes (Phoenix Hill Townhouses and Phoenix Place Apartments) and was responsible for the development of the first Affordable Housing Homearama - showing that a market did exist for new single-family homes in the neighborhood. The most inspiring aspect of the PHNA's success is that all of this has been accomplished by voluntary efforts of concerned residents and businesspeople. The people of Phoenix Hill have had an association to turn to with their concerns for over three decades. Community outreach is the most basic and important function of the association. As a result, the voice of one grows into the voice of many, thereby increasing the likelihood of accomplishing the desired goal.

The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

For those of you that knew about the Phoenix Hill market you will be glad to know all of last years vendors will be in attendance at the new location. We are currently talking about bringing in some new vendors as well. One idea we were talking about lately is the idea of it becoming somewhat of an "incubator" market. This would allow new farmers that dont have access to some of the established farmers markets(Bardstown rd,Douglass Loop,St Mathews) to get gain a foot hold in the urban market place. Another idea being bounced around would be to bring in part of the food truck scene to the market. Also from what I have heard, Steve from Fresh Start has put in for beer license. I know some of my regular customers at the old Bodega location would like to stop by and enjoy a beer while hanging out at the market. Good to know this tradition will most likely continue. And for anybody who cant place Fresh Start...it s pretty much between Buntons seed and Feeders supply on Jefferson. Hope to you there.

Just wanted to add this week will have music and food at the market. The Holy Mole food truck will be there, and Cameron Culbertson and Tristen Brook will be the musicians.

I stopped in for a few moments on the way home from work. I think the location and timing are brilliant. It's right on my way home, about halfway between my house and my office. You're catching all those folks traveling south and east out of downtown.

I bought some gorgeous radishes (been feeling very Frenchy-radishy lately) and made my first beef purchase, ever. I eat a little beef but have never cooked it. Here goes! I have to say the live music was a bit too loud. I was confessing my beef-ignorance to the Misty Meadows Farm lady, getting some advice on what to get, and we had to yell over the music. She apologized for its being so loud.

I feel quite sure this market will be a regular stop-off for me on my way home from work.
