Velocity loves food but not service at La Rosita

by Robin Garr » Sat Nov 03, 2007 8:45 am

Velocity's Lisa Hornung loved the food but didn't love the service at La Rosita in this week's short (234 words) review. Still, she seemed to like the things she tried, and found the burrito as big as Qdoba's. Lisa appears to have received the message about tipping: Even with spotty service, she left $6 on a $24.35 tab, a full 25 percent.

She didn't mention the new La Rosita on Grant Line Road.

To summarize, they go to a place that has two dozen menu items unique to the area, and they order "queso", a burrito and fajitas.

That's breathtakingly creative, and rather defines Velocity in the breach.

It reminds me of the people who come to Rich O's and gush about all the choices, then ask for Bud.

Are we breeding 'em this way?

I thought the same thing, Roger ... the business about the funny spicy queso had me spitting the coffee all over the keyboard. That, and the repetitive litany of "we liked it."

But hey, I can only put so much bile in one post, you know? ;)

I have been a regular patron of La Rositas since the first day they opened at the old taco stand place on Charlestown Road and have sent a lot of people there, but the reviewer is speaking the truth when they bagged on the service. It is frequently spotty and on my last visit was practically nonexistent. It was the first and only time I have left a place for lack of service. In fairness, it appeared as though perhaps they had only one server working the floor which may have been due to illness or something. But, I wasn't told that, I am just speculating. The person who typically waits on me when I dine there was not there that day. Israel wasn't there either. Oh well, I guess I will hit the new place on Grantline road next time as that is where I will likely find Israel for the foreseeable future I imagine.

I certainly don't disagree about the mundane food choices, but the review actually turned out better than I thought by being a review at all.

I happened to be having lunch when the Velocity photographer was shooting the burrito. Based on past content, I was convinced they were doing an entire piece based on burrito size comparisons.

"We ordered the cheese dip ($3.99), which was different from what we're used to at other Mexican places. The cheese was yellowish, instead of the white American cheese dip you get elsewhere."

I had no idea Mexican places served white American cheese dip? That is just a funny couple of sentences if you think about it. Anyway.... glad she can throw another Qdoba reference in there. I can't stand the Velocity.
Im not a food"ie", I am a food"er".

I agree about the service too. We have been eating there for over a year now and we have always has amiable service, but it is slow and REALLY hard to get your check at the end of the meal. But, we still keep on going. The food is so good we tend to try to forget that part of our meal.

After perusing this thread and others before bed last, I had a dream where I was driving by La Rosita. They had a sign outside that said "You'll like it!" In my dream I thought, "well that makes a bit of sense then." But after waking up, I had no clue what that was about, until i got into work this morning, and saw this thread again. Now it's all clear.
