Good article, on a quick skim. I look forward to absorbing it later.

Short answer, though, I don't know that I've ever argued that all chains are equal, and I doubt that any of the rest of our Merrie Little Bande have. I do hold a preferential option for local independents, because they essentially keep all the money at home, and the CEO is available to shake your hand, make eye contact, and hold an incentive to please you when you walk in the door.

But I've never ever claimed that Costco isn't a more ethical operation than Walmart, or that Carrabba's and Bonefish Grill (and the other outfits in their corporation) don't seem more conscious of the profitability of customer satisfaction than, say, Olive Garden. Sure there's a difference, and at a glance, I'd say this guy's thoughts generally comport with mine.
