We didn't get a news release at HotBytes. Please ask them to send one on (and make sure we're on the list). I'll be happy to post it when I see it.

It was covered in Business First just now . ( Sorry didn't see this before I started another thread).
"The food truck event will be held Tuesday, April 24, outside Louisville Metro Hall.

Louisville Dessert Truck, Holy Mole, Get It On a Bun at Booty’s, San Diego Sandwich Works, Genius In a Box, Grind, One Hot Tamale, The Traveling Kitchen, Red’s Comfort Foods and Bar B Lou are slated to attend Tuesday’s event, which is sponsored by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer’s office."

Here's the BF article:

http://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/n%20...%202012-04-18

Great exposure for the trucks ( Yay! all for that!) , but it seems a little " political" that this is timed for when Louisville is getting a lot of "eyes" due to Derby. Or am I just being jaded?

Deb, I'm one of the organizers and I absolutely planned it for this date. Uh . . . because there will be a lot of people in town for Derby events. Who I hope will be our customers.

Mea Culpa- Leah. The Mayor's office always makes it sound like it was their idea... So the answer is yes- I am a little jaded when it comes to local politics.

Great job- and great choice of date! I've already forwarded to friends who work downtown :D .

No problem. LouMetro was great to work with on this event. Reserving street space for us is a huge concession. If this is popular, I hope to keep talking/persuading the Metro folks to make this a weekly event. Other cities provide a consistent space for food trucks to park (called a 'pod'). It really helps in developing a food truck culture. I find that there are still too many people that don't really understand that some truly gourmet food can come out of a truck and it's not a 'roach coach.' ::shudder::

Here's the entire Press Release.

City-Sponsored Food Truck Event Kicks Off Spring, Area Derby Events

LOUISVILLE (April 18, 2012) – Noting that more people are on the street with the warmer weather, and that Derby already is in the air, Mayor Fischer is sponsoring a special food truck lunch event on the streets around Metro Hall.

“We are becoming quite the foodie town, and I want to make sure that everyone knows the amazing opportunities we have in Louisville, from the fanciest of white tablecloth restaurants to the mobile food vendors on our streets,” Fischer said. “As a way to raise awareness about our growing food truck movement, I want to encourage downtown works, conventioneers and visitors to get out and try one or more of them.”

Ten trucks will line Jefferson and Sixth Streets, serving their fare between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24.

Louisville was named by Zagat as one of the “8 Best Foodie Getaways in the WORLD,” with Louisville being the only U.S. city named, and also received accolades from Southern Living, being named the second top “Tastiest Town”..

“New restaurants continue to open, getting Louisville national attention and bringing new vibrancy to areas of our city,” added Fischer.

“We appreciate the city’s support for these micro-business enterprises,” says Leah Stewart, owner of the Louisville Dessert Truck. “Having an opportunity to bring food trucks together in one event gets the word out about what we have to offer and gives people the opportunity to try out a few different vendors in one location. It’s a real win for food trucks and a real win for the city.”

Participating trucks include:

Louisville Dessert Truck
Holy Mole
Get It On A Bun at Booty’s Diner
San Diego Sandwich Works
Genius In a Box
Grind
One Hot Tamale
The Traveling Kitchen
Red’s Comfort Food
Bar B Lou

It's TODAY!

I hope you'll venture downtown or if you work downtown, I hope you'll walk over to Jefferson between 5th and 6th. Grind is not able to join us today but the other nine trucks should all be there. It's a good variety and perhaps a truck or two you haven't tried yet.

While I love to see the Food Trucks do well, I am selfishly weeping as I was looking forward to Holy Mole at their usual Tuesday corner of Preston and Chestnut... :( 6th Street is too far a hike for my lunch break...

Many of us try to work the Medical Center area each week. My usual day is Thursday, IF i can find parking. Just follow Holy Mole's Fb page and their Twitter handle and you'll know if they're going to be there later this week.

I do follow all the food trucks, and never see anyone other than Holy Mole posting about hitting the Thoracic Park area. Where do you usually set up on Thursdays Leah?
