Neil, I'm afraid you're a long way from New England, but you can get some of that at the lunch counter at Seafood Connection, which is in the Chenoweth Square shopping center - same place as Majid's restaurant and Paul's market - just north of Shelbyville Road off Chenoweth Lane in St. Matthews.

I haven't been in years, but Rumor's used to be good. More Florida than New England.

Mr Smith
I have it on good authority that the Fireside Bar and Grill in Sellersburg is going to do an authentic clam bake this summer. Maybe you should check that out. Hey wait a minute!

Are you the Neil Smith from the Fireside?

Seriously Neill, I haven't found any place around here that does seafood like I remember it in New England. I used to go to Carolina Seafood over in the BBC Parking lot for some good broiled seafood but they are now gone. I'm sure someone else on here will be able to steer us both in the right direction. You really should do that clam bake though!

Cheers Neil!
Shane
*****Disclaimer******* There is no planned clam bake however much I might like one. Such an event was discussed last summer but the logistics and price were too formidable. My apologies for getting people's hopes up......Shane

I totally agree! I've pretty much given up meat save for seafood, so my belly has been groaning every time someone mentions seafood lately. I'd love to enjoy your stash at a clambake.

Neil
If you are going to have a clambake at Fireside definitely let me know. Haven't experienced a good clambake since I visited Maine at a relative's wedding a few years back. Sounds like a winner.

Shane here I was trying to find Patty some home town fare and now it could be back to the planning table! You know she and Lauren will be taking the reigns if this becomes an event. Potato peeler- Neil-Check

Neil,
Robin's suggestion over in St Matts sounds like it is worth checking out ( and I will). Since Carolina Shrimp and Seafood went out of business in that same area I haven't found anyplace that I thought reminded me of the fish shacks so common near the New England coast. To be fair, it was the cramped interior and barely civil counter staff that were the most authentic at that place.

You may have to just drag Patty out of the restaurant and take her back home for a visit. Maybe you guys could take one of the limos and drive up the east coast while it's still in the same place!

As far as you guys doing it yourself. The last time we discussed it (last summer) I thought the cost of the stove/steamer plus the cost of the seafood itself made the price point a no-go in the Sellerburg market. Has that changed?

This thread reminds me of how much I miss New England in the summer. One of these days I'll get back up there.
These two places were my go to joints. The Two Light Lobster Shack is a fine exampe of typical summertime Maine coastal fare. It's kind of off the beaten path in Cape Elizabeth, just south of Portland but it was always good eatin'. Think Mike Linning's with a better view and much better food!

And my other favorite is in Portland, ME on Commercial St. on the pier. Jay's Oyster Bar is about as good as it can possibly get. It's open year round and we always stopped in there on frequent trips to the Portland Greengrocer when I was cheffing at an inn in Jackson, NH. Great food, ice cold beer, typical "brusk" service from some old-school "Mainer" types and just awesome in every respect.

While in Washington DC last week, my wife and I ate at Luke's Lobster 2 days in a row. While we enjoed the lobster rolls, the crab rolls were our favorites. Around the corner from Jose Andres' Oyamel and Jaleo as well as Hill Country BBQ and Carmine's Family Italian, a cupcake shop and a gelato shop. That block was a dream.
