Volunteers needed for Henryville

by Deb Hall » Mon Apr 02, 2012 5:32 pm

All,

Okay, I'm stretching it that this belongs in this Forum, but I know this community has a heart of gold, so I thought we could help spread the word:

Henryville Community Church and the Metro United Way are in need of on-going help with feeding the residents and volunteers. They have plenty of food donations ( though more are always welcome); what they need now is folks to work- helping with simple food prep throughout the day. They are currently serving B, L, and D daily to anyone who shows up. I was told that previously Red Cross and Mastersons ( God bless them!) had done most of the cooking, but they are no longer there. I was there with a work group on Thursday, and two courageous women at the Church were trying to prep, stock, cook, serve and clean-up for all 3 meals. ( They were VERY happy when our group of 4 arrived mid-morning :D ).

No significant cooking skills are needed- most of the food and sauces are canned/frozen and it's mostly about opening, assembling, warming, replenishing, etc. If you or someone you know has some spare time to go up there, it would be a huge help.

Thanks for reading and spreading the word.

Deb, can you get me a point of contact for this. The East Washington Leadership Group is looking for a project for the 17th of April. They may have as many as 20 teenagers available for that day but it will need to be coordinated. Thanks,
Shane

Shane,
We went thru the Metro United Way; I can post the number tomorrow. They ask that you register groups over 10 people. Your group may be split up ( definitely don't want/need that many people in the kitchen  ). Part of our team did kitchen and part did sorted items in the warehouse. Unfortunately, their need won't be going away anytime soon.
Thanks,
Deb

The Metro United Way is coordinating volunteer services throughout the Southern Indiana area.

Their Volunteer Reception Center is set up at 723 Spring Street in Jeffersonville, IN to help tornado victims. It's the old Bales Used Cars lot near 9th Street in Jeff.

If you want to volunteer in the recovery efforts, please register as an individual or group so we can provide details on the next steps for registration and project assignments as soon as they are available.

Volunteer Reception Center Hours: The Volunteer Reception Center is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
