Starbucks single serve coffee maker

by Mark R. » Fri Mar 09, 2012 2:02 pm

According to reports published today Starbucks is going to come up with their own single serve coffee maker this fall. Certainly sounds redundant because the article states they're still going to have K-cups with their product. I'm also betting it will be quite expensive.

Here's an article on the subject: Starbucks single serve coffee maker

More pseudo-quality dreck from the biggest swill merchant in the coffee world.

There is no substitute for freshly roasted and ground coffee, brewed properly - and you can't brew properly with a pod machine.

Next to my as-worthless-to-me-as-tits-on-a-boar-hog "Droid "Smart" phone (which I un-assed BACK to Verizon about 6 days after I got it) there is no product I have ever sent back FASTER than the Keurig-style coffee machine I got for Christmas. I must have tried eleventy-four or eleventy-five different varieties over 4 or 5 days and eventually came to the conclusion that these machines...least ways the one I owned...made the nastiest coffee I've ever drank.

Wow. I have a Droid smart phone that I love and a Keurig that I don't want to ever die. I think they're both excellent products. Maybe I got the only two good ones?

Nah, I don't think so Leah. You've just got to be smart enough to operate the equipment. I've had a Keurig for three years now and it is ideal for me. I will say that I've wasted a lot of money on lame coffee trying to find the best ones. The ones that I like are consistently good and often better than coffee shop purchases.

I like the Barista Prima Italian Roast and Emeril's Big Easy about the best. They are dark roasted and very flavorful without being too acidic. Everyone I know (most everyone now days) who carries a smart phone of any type loves it. I'm sure that teats on a boar hog would be found useful by someone. Probably a French chef

Definitely agree with Leah and Shane that Keurig machines can produce a pretty good cup of coffee. It takes some experimentation to figure out what type you like but after that it's very good. The biggest advantage is that it's quick and to make 1 cup at a time so you don't throw any away. Like Leah we would be in a turmoil if it failed and would have to purchase another one very rapidly!

How very sensitive of you Justin. Now I feel guilty about using my Keurig. NOT

I don't know what the carbon footprint and material waste is of this single-serving method vs brewing conventionally but I'm using less energy at my end and wasting less coffee. I also have a Keurig reusable coffee filter that allows me to use fresh ground coffee in this machine if I choose to. I found that the coffee was often stale long before I got around to using it all and I had to throw it away. I only drink one or two cups a day.

It is certainly prudent to look to find ways to reduce waste and use less energy. I wonder how much waste and carbon footprint is invested in NASCAR or the comfort environmental systems that we all rely on?

We could all give up our conveniences and stop using up the world's resources. I'm not going to. I will however, applaud Keurig when they come up with a recyclable K-Cup! :)

Oh yes, we have that little gray plastic reusable K cup thingie. It's excellent, and I can use whatever coffee I want. There is also a metal lid that you can buy online and reuse the actual K cups. I was actually thinking of getting one or two Keurig machines with water reservoirs for the Dessert Truck.

I didn't see any attempt in Justin's links to inspire any guilt. Are you making one of those straw men?

Naw, just my guilty conscience acting up on me. I too thank you Justin for the links. I'd prefer sausage links in the future. Possibly made from boar hog teats.

Here's what I use to make single cups of coffee. It works anywhere there's water and a microwave.

Or a campstove...I used a very similar product on backpacking and fly-in fishing trips for many years. Makes a darn fine cup of Joe.
