Chef's terms: Is there a name for the knife carrying bag?

by Robin Garr » Mon Oct 29, 2007 12:01 pm

All chefs have 'em ... a brief case or carrying kit for those prized personal knives.

But is there a name for it, either formal and classic or modern and slangy? I'd just call it "knife bag" or "knife kit," but if there's a generally understood trade term, I'd love to know it.

Thanks, folks ... it was in the back of my mind that there was a fancy French (or something) name for it, but I guess not.

I just carried a 10" chef AKA "The Mothership" and an 8" Ridged Boner which will probably get a chuckle.......I've heard em called Rolls/ Gig Bags and a whole bunch of other things but ultimately it's not the bag or the tool that counts....it's how you use it! LOL
