Off the beaten path but deserve recognition

by Jerry Zegart » Fri Feb 24, 2012 2:07 pm

Are there restaurants off the beaten path that you feel deserve additonal recognition? I posed this question on another thread, but felt it would be more appropriate in its own thread.

Places like Mirage Mediterranean, given it's somewhat odd location, would not be on the radar unless someone recommends it as someone had told me about it. So I pose the question to all the LHB foodies out there: Are there other places like Mirage Mediterranean, that you have enjoyed, that you feel deserve greater recognition.

Anchorage Cafe- fantastic small plates

El Mariachi- great authentic Mexican ( with Mexican grocery, carniceria and fresh tortillas for sale next door).

I am with Deb on this. They can be a little uneven but it is a great and cheap alternative to La Rosita. Very authentic. You will be the only Gringo there. Sopes, huaraches, chicken fajitas, tamales, meatballs. Don't stray too far though!

Annie's Cafe. I know Robin has a review for them, but I believe they deserve every bit of "the buzz" that VK gets.

Pho, rice noodle soup with tofu and a side of bean sprouts and basil

The best soup that I've had in Louisville, fresh-squeezed limeade and an awesome avocado shake.

1. the new Korean place on Goose Creek just South of Westport Rd (can't remember its name)

2. Corner Cafe is out of sight, out of mind!

3. The Chinese restaurant across from Kroger way out Shelbyville Rd close to the Snyder (Peking City Bistro) . . . . in a tiny strip center, from the outside you'd never know they have a wonderful authentic Chinese menu specializing in hot-pots and stews, along with the best noodles in town.

4. The Tea House in Norton's Common, another Chinese Resataurant with an authentic menu, and willing to work with you on developing entrees for your tastes and health needs

I eat here once a week for lunch. Best Tacos in the city IMO. I like the Tacos Especial with a wedge of avocado on them.
