I've been a tad remiss in not posting this event/concept earlier. Honestly, I didn't want to spam the board with announcements but truly haven't had much to say, short of some high-fives and +1's.
Looking at the creative process by which most wine dinners are produced, you will find that this is not the way most people purchase wines. The format is usually designed around a particular portfolio or a guest speaker. That's quite smart, because these folks, and thier knoweledge, only come around once in the blue...
This got Majid thinking.
Why not design a set of wine dinners that revolve around the way people actually make wine selections? You order your food, and then select the wine that pairs with it. Ok, now who do we have make the selections? It can't be someone with a vested interest- a particular portfolio or what have you. A Master Sommelier, wine shop owner, wine writer, etc.
They would come in, eat the food and pair wines, not the other way around. We would bring in some of the selections that they want, include them in the creative process and everybody can learn from thier perspective.
He's got me here. 'Ok, which guest speaker first- Scott Harper? (he was my boss at my first job back in the day- Angelo's, if anybody remembers the place.)' A quick phone call and enthusiastic response later- we're off and running.
Majid had this other ideal marinating in his noodle for some time. Most meals are created to have something from the land, sea and air in the various courses. Why not devote an entire meal to each? One for all things avian? One from the land? One from the sea?
Pretty entertaining, for sure. So, with some development sessions under our belts, here's the bill...
