Cool stuff for the Grillmiester

by Steve P » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:37 pm

It's always grilling and/or Q-ing season at our house. Here's some cool stuff ya'll might not have seen (yet).

We've been using the Rib-o-later on one of our 22" (Store bought  ) Smokey Mountain cookers for a year or so. Absolutely LOVE it. Works on a regular Weber Kettle as well.

I've probably used 8 or 10 different thermometers in my grilling/q-ing days. A couple of years ago I discovered the Thermapen and it is hands down the best there is. Accurate readings in about 2 seconds. Comes in a dozen different colors. All the cool kids are using them.

Check out this BBQ Apron from Weber. I got mine for Christmas. It's WELL made and so cool it even has a built in Bottle Opener.

...and here's a kewl little ditty that is on the top of my Father's Day gift hit parade. A "Wood Fired" Pizza Oven Attachment for the Barbie. :D

...and for you urban dwellers. I highly-highly-highly recommend this little-bad boy. It cooks WAY better than that rusty Hibatchi out on your patio. We bought one for Tailgating and find ourselves using it around the house when it doesn't make sense to fire up the Big Feller. The thing will fit in the hall closet of your apartment or in the truck of your Toyota Corolla when not in use.

For those of you who deny your inner-NASCAR, you may not have seen the Speed Channel commercials for THIS lil' Ditty. The HotRod Grill...Thirty Thousand SMOKIN' BTU's of V-8 power. At 695 bills, it's prolly outside my budget for this year...but if any of ya'll actually GET one of these, I wanna cook on it. I'll buy the beer. Seriously. http://www.hotrodgrills.com/

Andrew, I absolutely wouldn't be without a Thermopen...by FAR the best/fastest thermometer I've ever used. Too bad it doesn't help me in the scoring department :D

We recently purchased one of these: Big Easy Electric Smoker Roaster. Very easy to use for my wife and lots of flexibility. Fairly small cooking chamber but in most cases that's not a problem and being electric makes it very safe.

We know a lot of people who use (and love) Guru's...I think Andrew A. might use one with his team. I've always been a little stubborn/old school when it comes to automated gizmos of any type. Looking at our scores over the past couple of years that's probably a mistake. :?

We started off using a stoker and switched over to a bbq guru. We've won using both of them. We just didnt need all the functions on the stoker and the simplicity of the guru was nice. I like sleeping. My pride may have hurt at first but that good night sleep eases the pain. :) I've got the stoker for sale actually if somebody wants to buy it.

Mine is the older model without the wifi.

I hear ya about the sleep...and the pride. As much as anything else, I just need a good "night man" who can lay off the sauce. :D
