all is well @ Mozz on Market

by David DuBou » Sun Feb 19, 2012 7:53 pm

there is a rumor that is going around that Mozz on Market is closing and i felt it important to make a pubic announcement that this is NOT true.

Mozz is NOT closing!
they have made some changes to the concept - that is all.
Changes that are very intelligent and allow them to offer guests a more affordable experience while also maintaining their quality of cuisine and service as well as a new wine list that is more focused on unique Italian wines.

and...while we are on subject, please be aware that rumors like this can be very damaging to a restaurant. people hear a rumor like this and it spreads. Then people think the restaurant can't be good anymore if they are getting ready to close. this causes people to avoid the restaurant. so...rumors can really hurt businesses, like restaurants, that greatly depend on public opinion. i happen to know where this rumor originated and its one of those things that came from malice. so please, try to be conscious of the fact that rumors can be damaging and please act responsibly.

David, could you tell us more about this? Or fill me in privately if you prefer? I really can't commit to suppressing restaurant discussion on HotBytes, but certainly it's helpful to have background information to help moderate the forum effectively.

Should the "Mozz on market closing?" title be changed so it's not appearing on the front page? I know that we've done this previously in the past when someone's posted a closing-related rumor or question that's later turned out to be inaccurate.

Fair question, Lauren. I'm not persuaded that the discussion shouldn't be taking place, but since we currently have a wine vendor to Mozz declaring the report untrue, I'm willing to err on the side of graciousness. I'll change the top (visible) thread title now. I can't change all the replies individually, but I'll fix the one that shows. :)

Interesting, according to their website Mozz is not open for lunch and I know for a fact that Anthony and Eric had at least 1 lunch and 1 breakfast at Proof over the weekend.

Dunno. Had a few friends in attendance, and apparently that's what they said....although they could have misheard?

Ripert was definitely at Papalino's yesterday, they posted a pic to their FB.
