What's up with Mozz on Market?

by John N » Thu Feb 16, 2012 10:17 pm

I heard a rumor that Mozz on Market is closing. Can anyone speak to this?

Also, word is a butchershop is opening up in NuLu.

Haven't heard that rumor but I do know that they canceled plans for a second restaurant near Lake Forest.

Please, please, please, tell me this is an unfounded rumor. Mozz is amazing and features the best Caesar salad I have ever eaten!

A friend of mine has a relative that is a line cook there & he said they keep cutting his hours back. He is afraid this might be a bad sign of things to come.

I've also noticed that the windows that face Market street are now plastered with all kinds of signs the advertising specials. Not something that the restaurant that's doing well would normally do.

Mozz is NOT closing!
they have made some changes to the concept - that is all.
Changes that are very intelligent and allow them to offer guests a more affordable experience while also maintaining their quality of cuisine and service as well as a new wine list that is more focused on unique Italian wines.

and...while we are on subject, please be aware that rumors like this can be very damaging to a restaurant. people hear a rumor like this and it spreads. Then people think the restaurant can't be good anymore if they are getting ready to close. this causes people to avoid the restaurant. so...rumors can really hurt a businesses, like restaurants, that greatly depend on public opinion. i happen to know where this rumor originated and its one of those things that came from malice. so please, try to be conscious of the fact that rumors can be damaging and please act responsibly.

In beginning post... "Also, word is a butchershop is opening up in NuLu."

Now is that a rumor of 'a' butchershop? Or, is that a rumor of The Butcher Shop is going to open in NuLu? Those are a restaurant wheres you goes in and pays your monies and then get your steak out of the fridge and cook it yourself on a grill. We did it years ago in Memphis.

It's a man-place restaurant. You can just feel Tim Allen in there cooking and making those man noises. Yeah, yeah, it's touristy but was really good food. They will cook it for you and they had baked taters and fattening fries, broccoli etc. I thought it was a neat concept.

But then again, having a real butcher shop in NuLu would not be bad either. Or a Jewish Deli, a NYC Bagel Place, and a really good blue plate special Diner. Oh, Yeah, a great Greek Restaurant.

Asking if a rumor is true is not the same as spreading it as though it were true. OP asked a question, presumably trying to have the rumor disproven if it was false. Which succeeded.

Hi-jack Warning

Ok, if were going to do this - We used to go to a place in San Antonio called "U.R. Cooks" As you walked in you picked up a plastic tray and a pair of metal tongs. Then you walked passed these glass door refrigerators that displayed all manner of restaurant cuts of beef. There were also kabobs, chicken, and pork.

The place had long permanent grills lined with pans full of garlic butter and shakers of spices. You slathered your raw meat with a paint brush dipped in butter and slapped it on the grill. Shortly, a waitress would bring an ice cold bottle of whatever you wanted to drink and you would tend your selection until it was ready.

They had an all you can eat, salad, baked potato, and Texas Toast bar.

I loved this place and wished we had one here. Predictably - Donna not so much.

Richard - there's something wrong with your speech pattern. Is there a gas leak in the house or are you channeling Steve P's hillbilly homily?

That's a good point, Jeff. I've also changed the other thread title to make it seem a little less "Film at 11'ish. :)

Meaning no disrespect to anyone, I did talk to a few folks around Nulu and certainly got the impression that the rumor is widespread, and that folks were concerned in the light of Matt A's having run into similar bad luck in his Texas ventures in the past. Nobody I talked to was happy about the rumors, but word on the street - well beyond HotBytes - was very strong.

I'm glad David stepped in, although I remain eager to hear more from him about the alleged disinformation ... I hate stuff like that and want to know as much about it as I can in order to be in a position to squelch it.

No, no there is nuffin wrong wiff my speech. I am a Hillbilly. I grew up in WV, one leg is shorter than the other long one, I know that the Blue Ridge Mountains do NOT go thru West By God Virginia. I know that we have been a separate state since 1863. I have done travels a bit from the Mother Country to the left coast, but, in the end, I always want to go back home. And, this June, God willing and the creeks don't rise to much, Country Roads will once again take me there. Although I would like to go Richwood in April for the Ramp Festival. Marsha you up for a road trip?

We had one in Oklahoma City back in the 90's. Great restaurant, loved the "red meat" vibe

Only Hillbilly's can use the "H" word...and you're too long-winded to be a Hillbilly, so I expect an apology.
