Menu for the Louis Le Français beer dinner on Thu., March 1

by Roger A. Baylor » Mon Feb 13, 2012 12:39 pm

After consultations between Louis Retailleau (The Frenchman, in New Albany), Tim Eads (Starlight Distribution) and NABC, we have a menu and details for the beer dinner. All information follows. The Frenchman would like for you to know that this will be a leisurely, intimate, continental evening. I believe the choucroute and beers speak for themselves, so all I have to add is my sincere hope that you can join us for this event. Call Louis Le Français for reservations.

Roger,
For clarification, this is five full courses including a glass of beer with each and an extra glass at the end for good measure? As one who has never had any substantial exposure to French food this seems like the perfect opportunity.

I imagine that ordering such a meal from any restaurant that provides country French cuisine would be much more expensive than this. Will you be in attendance and will you have any role in the meal presentation like you did at the beer pairing at Majid's?

Finally, if I arrive two hours before we eat will someone be available to assist me to my table and put my fork in my hand?

If the answer is yes to “any” two of the above questions, then I will be delighted to attend. Cheers!

Yes to all. The pour size has yet to be determined, but because the food portions will be full, so will the pours. We couldn't see trying to foist a tiny sample with the big main course, so expect generous pours. I will be speaking a bit on the beers, although not to the length of the Majid's event. A designated driver wouldn't be a bad idea in lieu of public transportation being no part of the Bridges Authority's "mobility solution."

Just a reminder: The dinner is set for Thursday, and although we're close to being fully subscribed, spaces remain. Call the Frenchman to reserve ... and I look forward to seeing some forumites over Alsatian & beer.

Thanks to everyone who made it to the dinner last night. I counted 36 diners, and perhaps the only reason there weren't more clean plates was the sheer volume of the portions.

I can't wait to hear the comments about the aged pork belly ...

Hear and read them you shall - at length (I can hear the groans). I will post my thoughts about this event as soon as I have time. I will hint that the terms rancid, diabolical, and pap smear will appear in said write-up so those with genteel dispositions may wish to look away. I had a great time though. Cheers!

Last week I ran into Shane, and during the course of conversation, he mentioned that he'd written a lengthy recap of the Louis Le Français/Starlight Dist./NABC beer dinner back on March 1, but thought it too long for posting here. I offered to publish it at my blog, and have done so. The story is in two parts, and you'll want to pay close attention to the pivotal role of pork belly in the narrative.
