Date night?

by Kris Billiter » Fri Feb 10, 2012 12:10 pm

So we are going out tonight. We have a $50 gift card to bravos but was wondering if anyone else has any great ideas. Thanks!

There obviously are many great choices in Louisville, Bravo you have the gift certificates for is quite good. If you tell us what kind of place you're looking for we can be a lot more helpful. Also since it's Friday night making reservations ahead of time would be a good option lets you don't mind waiting while having cocktails.

Kris, this is a judgement call. Normally I'm a support-your-locals kind of guy, and Bravo wouldn't be my No. 1 pick for dining in general or Italian in particular, mainly because I'd rather give my support to a neighbor and be served by a person with a direct stake in my enjoyment.

But that said, a $50 gift cert is not to be sneezed at!

I'd say use it, enjoy it, but then hit Volare, DiFabio's, Porcini, Gallo Rosso, Tuscany, Come Back Inn, etc., next time to support your locals and to compare and contrast the chain-vs-local experience for yourself.

We tend to have luck on Friday nights when we sit at the bar (except - last Friday we couldn't even find a place at the bar at Bristol Hurstbourne). We like the bar at Z's and since we usually split the burger and the wedge salad (with 1- 2 apps), it wouldn't break the bank if you only had 1 drink or glass of wine each. It has a nice, warm, date night, feel.

Oh - and I meant to say we like Bravo's and it's right in our 'hood. Perfectly fine wine by the glass, but the cocktails are just so-so.

Robin you may have summed up my feelings. Not my first choice but still it's $50! Thanks for the replies!
