Chocolate Covered Strawberries

by Pete O » Wed Feb 08, 2012 10:20 am

Last night, my wife threw out a not-so-subtle hint that she wanted some chocolate covered strawberries, so I need to deliver for the ultimate Hallmark holiday next week. I usually buy her Fannie May chocolates each year because they are her favorite, but this year I have to find something new. Any recommendation on where to buy chococlate covered strawberries?

Thanks,
-Pete

They are really easy to make yourself! However, it's best to use long stemmed berries and they can be a little expensive and hard to find. Creation Gardens will for sure have them this time of year but I don't know how much they are. But it would be much less expensive than paying up to $50 a dozen from an online source.
If you don't want to try them yourself, you could start at Godiva in Mall St. Matthews or Edible Arrangments or even one of the finer restaurants in town to see if they will make you some. I have no idea how much they are, but I'm sure not cheap this time of year. Expect to pay at least 2-3 bucks a piece if not more.

Be sure to check with Coco's Chocolate Cafe in the Highlands. I'll bet they could make it if they don't have it.

Whole Foods is a possibility as well.

And I wouldn't count out Comfy Cow or Sweet Surrender as well. Definitely worth a few phone calls....

Haven't been in this week, but any other year Fresh Market has had both long stemmed strawberries in produce and chocolate covered strawberries at the bakery counter.

I saw a sign at the Clifton Kroger last night where some stores, not sure which ones, will have a chocolate strawberry dipping station set up on Valentines Day. This might be an affordable & easy option.

Coco's Chocolate Cafe on Bardstown in the Highlands has a sign up about their chocolate covered strawberries, so there's another source for you.

I ended up with a dozen from the Bakery at Sullivan University, mostly because it was the most convenient of the options mention when I was in a time crunch on Monday. They were well received.
