I continue to be as unimpressed by Zagat's worldwide efforts as I was unimpressed by them as a local guide when we lived in NYC. But that being said, let's revel in the publicity as they declare Louisville one of the eight best foodie getaways around the world!

http://blog.zagat.com/2012/01/8-best-fo ... world.html

(The details: They visited - or maybe just got a press release from - 21c Hotel and Proof, coupled it with Bourbon and they were done with Louisville, except for the Hot Brown. But that was enough to put us on a very exclusive list, so what the hey ... ) )

It's a more impressive list to be part of the of Southern Living's list of the 10 best southern cities! While it is a poll of people and not scientific it certainly shows that a lot of people who travel recognize Louisville for having good food. Something we already know. :D

Brad, I merged your post into the similar thread that Will started earlier. This is cool! At the same time, if you read the article carefully, I don't think it's ranked from first to eighth. They just included eight cities that they thought were great "foodie getaways." It's definitely fine to be recognized, though. :)

Cornwall, beautiful scenery but the food - seriously? I haven't been to England since the 90's and possibly it's changed, but when I lived there I found English food to be bland, fatty, and unremarkable in nearly all respects. Pork pies (shiver) The beer however, made up for it. I gained 35 lbs in three years.

I went to Cornwall several times including spending a week in Penzance. Cornish pasties were like a calzone with pot pie filling - except with less taste. I ate in dozens of fish and chip shops and rarely found anything that wasn't disgustingly oily and the chips tasted just like the fish.

Blood sausage, steak and kidney, spotted dick. I still can't give blood because of the bovine spongiform encephalitis (Mad Cow Disease). Well thank goodness for the beer! Lamb and parsnips are the only thing I remember fondly. Oh and the kabobs at the Pakistani shop.

I'm hoping to visit again for Christmas this year. Maybe things have change. Allison, I love your country and I dream about returning to the pubs but even you don't serve English food at your place.

Another perspective...

http://insiderlouisville.com/news/2012/ ... g-ranking/

Eighth best in the world is a stretch. We're good, but you know... Being better than the top eight largest cities in the world, I just don't know.

This city doesn't know how to take a compliment.

"Thank you Zagat."

Now, please send the tourists with their gold cards and ready cash our way.

I certainly agree :!: Any positive recognition no matter who it's from is good and in this case Zagat is quite well respected which makes it even better.
