Welcome to the Louisville Restaurants Forum, a civil place for the intelligent discussion of the local restaurant scene and just about any other topic related to food and drink in and around Louisville.
Looking for a place to grab dinner this Friday. Where do you go in Louisville for a great steak or perfectly roasted chicken - and a heavy wine pour - that won't break the bank or frown at customers in jeans?
My recent review of Z's suggests that "affordable" and "steak" are hard to find in the same place, but one spot that may make you happy is Palermo Viejo, the delightful Argentine eatery on Bardstown Road.
Jack Fry's has an amazing roast chicken entree, and their filet is superb - it's what I get once a year when I want a piece of red meat - and they don't frown on people in jeans. Some people will be dressed up, others not so much. But I wouldn't call it cheap. It ain't the Oakroom, but it ain't the Bristol, either. I can't imagine there exists a place that does "great steak" or "perfectly roasted chicken" without charging a premium for it. But you can definitely go in there and not be looked down upon.
I think Dish (5th and Market) has a prime rib thing they do on the weekends. I haven't had it, but the rest of the food (and the drinks) at Dish are great.

A thought; The Steak au Poivre at Gary's on Spring is every bit as good as any of the steaks that I've had at the "usual suspects" (Morton's, Jeff's, Eddie's, Ruth's, Jack's, etc.) around town. But, @ $29, it's less than any of them and a pretty good bargain !
Longhorn is not bad if your not afraid of or anti-chain. They do it better than every other steak chain out there IMHO. For the finer (ie, way more expensive) places I like Del Frisco's.
Longhorn Steak house has an nice "Classic" 11 oz New York Strip for $18.79...comparable prices on other cuts. Not sure about the wine pour. Stoney river has a nice 10 oz Top Sirloin, can't remember the price but as I am recalling our last visit, it seems to me it fell well within the "affordable range.
Not a big fan of Pat's or Del Frisco's...what about The Cast Iron Steakhouse in Jeffersonville ? It gets good reviews on Urbanspoon and a 96% favorable rating (138 people).

We actually have the prime rib here about a month ago it was excellent. The prices are better than reasonable, there were 3 of us, we each had prime rib with the side and a salad and we split an appetizer. We also each had a bourbon drink including one of us who had Pappy Van Winkle on the rocks in the bill was only about $60.00! Definitely a restaurant worth considering if you're in the downtown area. It's nothing fancy but....
