I saw an article earlier that they were coming but it didn't state where! I'm assuming it's going into where Old Navy used to be, that's the only open store I can think of over there.

I can't read the full article because I don't subscribe. Was there an estimated opening date?

Not really, it only stated sometime this year.

They are canvassing or help now so opening must be soon. Video clips make it look like a Fresh Market.

:( I hope that's not true- I was hoping for something new and interesting. Especially since it's going to make parking in that portion of the Summit even more challenging...

Deb

But at least we won't have to face the mall traffic to go there which will make Steve happy!

It's more like Whole Foods than Fresh Market. But it's cheaper than Whole Foods.

Is it cheaper than Fresh Market?

The one in Knoxville used to be cheaper than Whole Foods and Fresh Market. It also used to be a beautiful store with a huge selection of fresh, organic and harder to find produce. Last time I was in there, the prices were unsightly and the produce section had been cut in half in favor of a flower shop and random housewares. I hope that's not their new business model, it was kinda like going to a Big Lots, just with Macy's prices.

Earth Fare opened today at the Summit. I took a quick look, and as the other posters said, it seems very much like Whole Foods. I didn't check enough stuff to get a good feel for how the prices compare.

The issue between Fresh Market and Whole Foods isn't one of price for me. It's that Whole Foods makes a commitment to quality foods with an emphasis on natural, (sometimes) organic and hormone-free, humanely raised and (mostly) grass-fed meats and so on.

If that kind of thing is important to you - and it is to me - then it matters that Whole Foods does it and Fresh Market, no matter how pretty it may be, does not. And that's why I still shop, sometimes, at Whole Foods, in spite of its CEO's wacky politics and anti-union stance.

Obviously I'd like to know where Earth Fare fits in this dynamic. I'll try to find out.

This place is expensive! Add .25 - +$1.00 on any regular item at Whole Foods. I had a coupon for a free chicken and got a free grocery tote, so I can't say I got totally robbed, but honestly, they are really high. I overheard some of the employees talking about how they had been inundated with Oldham Co people...it'd be worth the extra couple miles in gas to make it to Whole Foods or Trader Joes. Nice store, laid out a little oddly, but I think I won't be shopping there except for a drive by when I can't get to Shelbyville Rd. Carts are outside the store, none inside, so grab one before you walk in. I was surprised it wasn't more crowded on day 2 of opening. A lot of people wandering and not buying. I breezed through the checkout without a pause...very unlike the opening day of Trader Joes...
