Joe's OK Bayou

by Kris Billiter » Wed Jan 25, 2012 10:02 am

Went last night for the first time in 7-8 years armed with a soon to expire groupon. Had a fantastic meal! I had the combo with gumbo and jambalaya. Great, deep flavor but the thing that stuck out to be on both was the rice. Perfectly cooked! Not mushy or crunchy. Really well executed. The star of the night though was my wife's catfish po boy. I'm not always a big catfish fan as I think it can taste muddy. Not this. Perfectly fried in cornmeal, very crunchy outside, and vey moist inside. My wife said it was the best fish sandwich she had ever had. They are kind of off the path and frankly I don't like going in and out of that shopping center but it was well worth the effort. We will be back soon!

Glad you enjoyed it, Kris. I haven't been in ages and am wondering if it changed hands recently? Did it go from Joe's to Joel's?

On a side note: I think that Sichuan Garden, which is in the same shopping complex, has the best Sichuan String Beans in the Metro.

Stupid thumbs! Still joe's. Oddly enough my iPhone autocorrects it to Joel's. Not sure why.

The breading Joe uses for his catfish and crawfish (Cajun Popcorn) are top notch, and the dipping sauce is great (fans of Raisin' Canes will recognize it...)

The inscrutable ways of the iphone auto correct are beyond me. Thanks for putting Joe's back on my radar and for reminding me of those sichuan string beans.

Interestingly Joe's was the first restaurant we ever visited when we were doing the recon on our first "do we want to move here" trip. We usually go there two or three times a year and are never disappointed. Nice price point, nice execution.
