River Road BBQ?

by JimDantin » Mon Jan 23, 2012 11:33 am

Anyone know anything about River Road BBQ? We just spotted it at the bicycle shop on River Road at Zorn Ave.

Thanks,
Jim

Those links lead to two different stores - which tells me there are two places to check out on River Road.

The one in LEO is basically a liquor store across from Waterfront Park. It has been in the area for years but was moved across River Road to make room for the park. Has always had pretty good lunch food.

The other one is about a block from Zorn. Never been but the building has been a couple of different places, but not food related.

I don't believe the place Jim is asking about is in the Liquor store. The place he's asking about is right at the intersection of Zorn and River Rd, it used to be (I think) a Marathon gas station before last springs floods. We got off of 71 at Zorn on Friday night and I happened to notice someone/something had rehabbed the space but couldn't tell what it was from the road. Gonna check it out tomorrow or the next day...

It still is a Marathon station...there is a small building on the river side of River Rd. ( next to water tower ). Directly across from the Marathon is a bicycle repair shop that Jim mentioned ( very popular area for bicyclists ).
In front of the building is a small smoker with a sign advertising BBQ.....

Dan E's Facebook link is the correct one

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

I stopped by this afternoon, on my way home from work. I got there a little after 4:30 and they were cleaned out. They said they were sold out by 2:30. They are not open on the weekend. They said they will be increasing their food as they go on. They were cleaning up, when I showed up, so I didn't ask a lot of questions. I was pretty sad they didn't have any food, because it smelled wonderful in there. I can still smell the smoky goodness on my clothes.

I'm like'n their style already...We cook it, you eat it, if you're not there when we've got it...Tough luck.

On it like a Pit Bull on a Poodle. It's all carry out, no tables. Nice folks, I think once people find them they will do fine. The signage isn't eye catching and if I weren't looking for it I'd miss it...although the smell gets you if your windows are down. I got the pulled pork sandwich and the coleslaw. Coleslaw is vinegary not mayoish. I usually prefer mayo based slaw, but this wasn't too tart and was very well done. The pulled pork is good, really moist and smoky. The red house sauce is a little vinegary for my taste, but the meat was the star of this meal. I took a chance and got a lb to go...pulled pork tacos anyone?? :) They take debit/credit cards as well...this is only about 5 minutes from my downtown Thoracic Park workplace and I can see this being an easy run out and grab some yummy lunch option...
