My husband really wanted to go to The Fish House, he even drove by there with a wistful look in his eye.....but the children's palates overruled. but we will probably try them out when it is just us.... plus beignets!
We went with The Fishery. i had checked out their prices online and it was in the range i was looking for.... $6 - $10 a person. The added bonus was that children eat free on Saturday's with the purchase of a Special or Platter.... even better.
It was exactly what i was looking for. i cant do very busy places because of my 4 yr old.... but then if places are too small, its a problem as well. This was perfect. Not too large, not too cramped, ample table room..... found a place to fit all 6 of us... im happy. (Potty-training also, so happy to find the bathroom was very clean!)
We walked in and i sat the children down and ordered our food. Prices were very reasonable........we totaled at about $37 dollars.... which is very, very good for two adults, two teenagers, and two little ones.
My girls and i had the cod, my husband had the catfish, and the boys had chicken tenders and fries. our sides varied from the obligatory fries, to wedges, rice pilaf, slaw, green beans, and mac and cheese.
all the fish was great. it was not heavily seasoned with a light coating. the portions were huge....... the sandwiches came with a large piece of fish on wheat bun. The catfish sandwich had two large pieces.... i tasted it and it was ok. i am not a fan of the strong catfish flavor, but it was good, i would try it next time. the boys chicken was very good as well.... REAL CHICKEN! and again it was lightly battered...i dont cook with dredging everything heavily, so the kids are used to this type of coating.
everything was super, super hot! NOT a complaint.... i am the type of person that wants my food piping hot.
the boys were also treated to a complimentary cookie with their meal..... what i especially liked was the lady at the counter said: Oh, they also get a cookie with their meal, when they are done eating, just come and let me know. i thought that was sooooo cool.....
the only downside were the sides. they definitely were not the highlight. the fries were good.... and my daughter and i really liked our potato wedges, probably could have used more spice, but still pretty good. one daughter enjoyed her rice pilaf a lot and the other loved the mac and cheese, i thought the mac and cheese was just so-so. slaw... also ok. biggest disappointment were the green beans..... straight from the can with no seasoning or doctoring. it has been years since i have had canned green beans, i remembered why....... actually i never liked green beans, until i made fresh, of course no comparison.
overall.... great recommendation and we will definitely be back.
