Beer Bias

by Steve P » Tue Jan 17, 2012 11:57 am

Kewl little video of a couple of beer geeks blind taste testing a new Bud product...with just a weeeeeeee little bit of face saving back tracking once the product is relieved. Lawn mower beer huh? I'm down with that.

I find most of the Kolsch style craft beers to be lawn mower beers and not that different from the stuff the big guys are putting out. Slap the Kolsch name on something and people seem to think it tastes better and holds more weight; maybe that is the approach the big guys need to take.

Speaking of beer...I do not know if this has been touched on..?

My AB rep just left me with a bottle of Bud Light Platinum....should be hitting your favorite beer retail store Wednesday...6% ABV

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Alan,

That's what these beer geeks were taste testing (Bud Platinum)...According to them it has "pineapple notes", a crisp somewhat hoppy finish and would be great after mowing the lawn.

"No judgment here, just a final question: Are there products—beer or otherwise—you enjoy but no longer purchase due to a personal bias about the brand?"

I don't see my values system as a "personal bias about the brand." So I'm supposed to feel bad because I don't believe in mega-corporations. Umm kay.

I loosely repeat something I wrote just the other day: To sample Kolsch as it is brewed in served in Cologne, Germany is a wonderful experience. I agree with J that the style name often gets slapped on labels in America, and that's unfortunate, but let's just not lose sight of how distinct tasty and distinct, albeit light and pale gold, Kolsch can be in its native habitat.

At 6% alcohol (vs 4.2% for reg Bud Light)...There are going to be a few surprises ahead for your typical Bud Light swilling Red-Billy come driving home from the bar time. :? For those that -do- manage to make it home, hangover time is gonna be -much- more interesting.
