KY wine dinner series at Westport General - PR

by Will Crawford » Wed Jan 11, 2012 4:25 pm

Thanks Robin for letting me post.

I have been doing some traveling around the state and enjoying the local wine.
Westport General Store will be hosting wine dinners with KY wineries throughout the winter and spring.

We are taking the month of January off. We re-open Thursday Feb. 2nd.
February 3rd at 7pm we are hosting a wine dinner with Equus Run Vineyards from Midway KY.
Wine Maker Cythia Bohn will be on hand to talk about her winery and wine.

The special dinner consists of:

-1st course
Equus Run Riesling Ripe tropical flavors with hints of pineapple and pear.
Kentucky Bib lettuce salad with pears, raspberries, candied pecans, savory croutons and Kenny's farmhouse gouda with a sweet pomegranite vinaigrette.

-2nd course
Chardonnay Stainless steel fermented with crisp granny smith apple finish.
Pan seared bay scallops, served over sauteed arugula with a tangy ginger beurre blanc.

-3rd course
Cabernet Sauvignon- Dry red wine with a bouquet of dried fruits and a mix of deep red ripe berry and fig.
Chimichurri marinated and grilled Kentucky Bison ribeye steak, with oven roasted fingerling potatoes, fresh grilled asparagus, roasted mixed peppers and salsa crude.

-4th course
Kiss- a chocolate infused cabernet with cheery and strawberry finish.
Mixed berries Romanoff with fresh seasonal berries, Gran Marnier, and sweet cream

The cost for this dinner will be $65 per person (does not include tax or gratuity)
502 222 4626 for reservations.

In March we will be hosting Wight-Meyer out of Bullitt County.

Thanks

I just wanted to add that after running into and talking with Will about this at a party for a shared acquaintance last weekend, he's put a ton of work into it and it sounds very exciting. I, like many, initially "poo-pooed" the thought of a dinner around Kentucky wines, but after talking with Will we're definitely going to check one of these out.

It was good to see you and Tosha. What a surprise.
Thanks for the encouragement. Over the past few years I have tried to find some local wines that I liked and it was not so easy. Things have improved greatly. Equus Run has some really tasty stuff.

In March we are going to host Wight-Meyer Vineyards. Again, very good.

The first commercial winery in America was started in Nicholasville in 1798. I think it is really cool that so many enthusiasts are now making wine in KY again. Lets keep it local.

If you go to Kentuckywine.com you can see a great map and take a tour wineries.

It makes for a fun day.
