I need a brat

by MichaelDrane » Wed Jan 11, 2012 10:59 am

I'm craving a big ol' brat with saurkraut and authentic German style mustard, preferably in a bun. Any restaurant suggestions, hopefully one's with take out?

For real! You'd think one of the local craft brewing moguls could create a craft beer and sausage haus. Would that be so hard?

My German food fix gets taken care of at the German-American Club. As far as restaurants, I know of two German restaurants in Louisville. I've never been to either of these places, but they both have what you're looking for:

Gasthaus:

Erika's German Restaurant:

Another farther into left field option I highly recommend is Red's Comfort Foods on the corner of Muhammad Ali & Armory Place

DaVille Slugger is some mighty tasty eating.

Not a brat but I bet you can find something to your liking.

BustaGrill is down for the season but is excellent when the weather improves and something to look forward to.

Indeed, two fine establishments. My wish is for a place offering a large variety of wurst.

And beer. A large selection of beer. Microbrewed beer. On tap. Nothing's like wurst and beer.

Check's in Germantown has an excellent brat and saurkraut on rye (sure they would put it on a bun for you) and a good beer selection. Also, tasty german potato salad.
