In praise of Corbett's

by Andrew Mellman » Sun Jan 01, 2012 12:26 pm

We faced NYEve with a lot of trepidation this year. For many years we had gone to restaurants for New Years Eve, only to face a dramatically overpriced menu, indifferent service, and underwhelming food. Some of our favorite restaurants couldn't pass the NYE test!

After many years of home parties, we and our friends decided to try once more. I received Dean's e-mail blast indicating an interesting menu - along with the implication that there were seats available - and suggested Corbetts, which another friend reserved.

I have to say that it was one of the most wonderful evenings we've spent! The food was perfectly cooked (not easy with fish for a hundred or so, and beef tenderloin meltingly medium rare throughout), the service was exactly what the evening warranted, the quantities were just right (not so much that we felt exhausted, but sufficient so we felt as if we received a "bargain"), Dean was ever-present making rounds, and - extremely important for a dinner lasting from 9 to midnight - the pacing was great; we never felt rushed, and also never felt as if we were just sitting waiting for the next course.

It was just one more exceptional example of why Chef Corbett is the "Dean" of Louisville chefs!
