New Albany's Little Chef closing today

by Robin Garr » Sat Dec 31, 2011 11:49 am

Another local food icon lost. This tiny diner in downtown New Albany will close its doors at the end of business tonight, the New Albany News and Tribune reports.

Bummer. I fondly remember eating there with my mother after getting our back to school clothes from The Fair Store, The White House and Stein's Shoes. I haven't been there in several years so I can't really comment on anything about what may have led to the sudden closing.

However, I'm very interested in the space OR if possibly if the old Valentine Model Diner could be re-located. It's no secret that my true dream is to own a diner. I think you could do some very cool things with 10 seats!

I just drove by and they had quite a crowd, with people waiting outside to go in to eat. Good to see them get one last rush.

Yes, for one restaurant. There are many other food genres to deliver to the fair city.

Well, it's like the Rutles so famously sang: All You Need Is Cash.

I have precious little capital, but lots and lots of ideas, especially as they pertain to beer. Keep me posted, sir.

Money's too tight to mention ... whatever happened to Mick Hucknall, anyway? Bet he still has some cash.

He (Mick) got rid of his ruby tooth and settled down.

I've always been a fan of Mick and Simply Red. The latter helped provide the soundtrack to my teaching semester in Slovakia, back in '91-'92.
