Well, shoot, Steve. How long are here for, how long has it been, and what are you in the mood for?

I'll jump right in and tell ya that Hammerheads is friggin awesome for rich and crafty food in a dive setting on Swan Street; Silver Dollar is a higher end Texas-themed whiskey bar and restaurant; Garage Bar on Market has quickly become known for it's oysters, country ham, and wood fired eccentric piZZas; Stephen is back at Majiid's, so there's a lotta love; Theatre Square always delivers; Roots on Bardstown Rd is the new vegan favorite; Jamie's Cupcakes on Bardstown Rd is adorable and all natural with extensive vegan options. That's a bit to get this started. Welcome home to the Southern Food City Mecca :-).

Well, we are in town until Saturday afternoon. I were down in September for 4 days and have hit the 'Ville on a few day trips for business.

We like to try new spots and we just love coming here becuase we rarely have a bad experience and we don't have to go to any chains.

Pizza
Seafood
Italian
Ice Cream (sweet stuff)

We hit Mozz, Bunz, Eddie Merlot, Seviche, North End, Lynn's, Toast, NamNam, Bluegrass Burgers, Sweet CeCe's, Vincenzo's, Volare, Varanese, Za's and The Blind Pig the last few trips.

I would move Coal's to the top of your list for lunch today and for dinner either Harvest or Wlitshire on Market. Save room and walk over to Ghyslain for dessert. Then walk back across the street and stop by the Garage Bar for an after dinner cocktail. :D

I'm really sorry, and I do respect other people's opinions, but I just do not get the love for Ghyslain. And I've made an honest effort, tried it four or five times.

I'm not really a big dessert guy either, but Colleen really likes them and no one outside of the fine dining places like the Oakroom,Volare or Corbett's for example, has that style of presenting desserts in town.
Most place's dessert offerings are big clunky, gussied up homestyle items like huge layer cakes, cheesecake, pies, cobblers, bread puddings, chocolate torte, etc, or creme brulee. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
However, I think the offerings at Ghyslain are very visually appealing. Although I will admit the flavor profiles of what they are trying to accomplish can sometimes miss the mark quite a bit, they are still pretty tasty. 8) Just my 2 cents.

I've had mixed experiences. The meat-and-cheese platter is good, the french dip is OK, but the sausage on the breakfast sandwich I had was some of the most tasteless stuff I've ever eaten.

After some shopping yesterday afternoon we wanted a little snack and we thought we would try Molly Mallone's just down from Bunz and Wick's. Not the best experience for us. I remember this place from way back in my drinking days but I thought they may have some good appetizers. The place smelled of stale beer (not pleasant). We ordered a couple appetizers and a drinks. My drink glass was so dirty I about gagged when I noticed it after my first drink. I am not sure if that ruined everything else but the wings and potato skins were standard bar fare, not great, not horrible. But the thing that got me the most was the waiter's reaction to me telling him about the problem with the dirty glass. He looked at it and said, "that is disgusting". I should have know better.

We did however enjoy a great dinner at Volare. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious.

We had a late breakfast at Lynn's and then stopped by Five Guys in New Albany on our way home.

Thanks Louisville for another great food trip.

I'm sorry about Molly's but it's a young, hipster college kid hang now.
I doubt that you'll find anything in that strip that would exceed your expectations.

I understand...it is all coming back to me. I think hit that strip many times back in my early 20's. I did enjoy my burger at Bunz earlier this fall.

I'm thinking Nulu is the epicenter for new, but now I'm trying to remember: Did Decca and RYE come this year or last?

Thanks for trying Coals! I would suggest Henry's Place or Eiderdown. There is a brand new place called Relish that has opened for lunch. I don't know how to explain where it is but it is close to the river. That should narrow it down for you! Or Sway, although I have not tried it.
