Majid's New Beer Program

by Stephen D » Wed Dec 21, 2011 4:02 pm

I'm proud to announce the new beer program at Majid's. Conceptually, I made selections that are bottled, local (whenever possible) and exemplars of thier particular styles. Our pricing falls in-line with Majid's philosophy of providing value on quality. In addition to our new standards, we will also have a seasonal (or, Wow! This is so good!) selection that will change from time-to-time.

The Usual Suspects $3

Bud Lt
Coors Lt
Miller Lite
Michelob Ultra
St Pauli Girl N/A

The Crafts

Stout- Bluegrass Brewing Company Bourbon Barrel $5
Double Bock- Sam Adam's Imperial $6
Belgium Ale- Upland Nonflitered $4
Brown Ale- Bluegrass Brewing Company Nut Brown $4
Pale Ale- Falls City $4
Double IPA- NABC Hoptimus -22 oz- $12
Seasonal- Southern Tier Chokolat Stout -22 oz- $14

Good news. THanks Stephen. I have previously commented on these interweb pages that I enjoyed the food at Majid's and it's right in my neighborhood, but that I was consistently disappointed by the beer selection.

I believe I even mentioned it in a thread, but didn't think anything would come of it.

Anyway, I will be there soon.

Actually, your comment was at the core of the discussion regarding the beer selections.

:D

We look forward to your next visit. Let me know when you are in, so I can fawn over you a bit!

I almost forgot- these selections are currently in-house, but the menus will not be changed until this weekend, so that we may work out the old list. So if you come in before then, simply ask your server.

Okay, you know I love ya, brother. And Majid's, too. But I've got to ask: Since you're honing a drinks program of real quality, did you have to take on so much industrial beer? Couldn't you have narrowed it down to, say, Bud Lt and St. Pauli, so you have something for the mouth-breathers, and then use the opportunity for an educational moment for those who'll listen?

I wish!

Truth be told, we have some regulars that drink only these beers. As much as I'd love to drop a Mich Ultra for a deep, delicious Porter, Sandy and Tom would never forgive me for it.

And they're the boss!

Okayfine, but you gotta have both Coors Lt and Bud Lt? They're the same damn thing! Indistinguishable! Like making love in a canoe!

Yes, Pale Ale is the more appropriate style. My bad.

From what I understand, we're the second bar in the city to carry this bottling (Silver Dollar being the other.)

Out of curiosity, Who is contract brewing the bottles? Are they coming from Sand Creek Brewing in wisconsin or Blackstone Brewing in Nashville?

Ya know, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of dropping Coors Lt...

Let's give this a month and let me focus on the numbers and the guest demographic.

EDIT: Nobody's gonna like it, but I'm dying to work in a framboise or a mead. Especially a mead!

Good work. Maybe pare down the industrial swill a bit more, as Robin suggests, and perhaps it will wither away to take its place on the ash heap of history. :D

Come on, Robin. Don't perpetuate the hotbytes idea that all craft beer proponents are snobs. I expect it from elsewhere, but as the Big Chief, can't you be a little more diplomatic?

Fair question. I was behaving myself until he put up both Coors AND Bud Light. 8)

Okay, back into my den under the porch. I'll try not to come out yapping and barking for another day or two. Spirit o' the season, ya know.
