Indi's in Charlestown, IN

by Bryan Shepherd » Tue Dec 13, 2011 7:09 pm

I had business the other day in Charlestown, IN and noticed an Indi's restaurant either opened or getting ready to open. It is in the old KFC building, I believe.

I would still rather have a slice of Charlestown Pizza Company!!

there has been one in Jeff for a while now... personally, i still prefer the one downtown. We tried the Jeff location about 3 times.... and all times we were a bit disappointed. also, the jeff location very, very oddly does not offer boxes of chicken. just dinner plates and by the piece.

Yes, there is indeed an Indi's in Charlestown. They opened a few weeks ago and seem to be doing well so far. There were Charlestown sized traffic jams during their opening weekend.

On other Charlestown restaurants -

62 Twist opened over the summer on Highway 62 (just past the entrance to Charlestown at Hwy 62 & IN 3). A small ice cream shop that also serves food. They have a few tables inside and offer the standards that you would expect from an ice cream shop. Everything I've had from there has been good.

La Pasadita is a classic taqueria that also houses a small Mexican grocery store on IN 3 (Market Street). For those of you that remember the reasons we love La Rosita, La Pasadita does the same kind of thing. Great food, unpretentious, and friendly, La Pasadita is my first recommendation for those traveling to Charlestown.

Santa Fe is another Mexican restaurant in Charlestown and they are located on the square.

Dave & Peg's Copper Kettle is one of my most frequented Charlestown restaurants. The Copper Kettle serves up "home cooking" diner style food in the vein of Denny's, Cracker Barrel, & Waffle House. They are my "go to" restaurant when I'm not feeling like pizza. They are located on Main Cross Street, just around the corner from the CPC.

There is also a new restaurant/bar set to open called Mac Daddy's in the old Pirate's Cove location on Highway 62.

Most of the people I have read talking about Indi's on another message board have not been too impressed with it...we don't eat meat anymore so we won't be trying it as I seriously doubt there is much for us there.

The one thing I am curious about, and what kept me out of the Jeff location even when we did eat meat...does the Charlestown location have the bulletproof glass in the ordering area? Something just doesn't strike me right about assuming all of your customers are criminals. :|

In fairness, I think that concept started with the original location and (near?) all-night policy in a part of town not generally recognized as "safe."

I understand that with the original location, but the Jeff location was closed, lights out, at 8:30 p.m. last Saturday when we came out of a play at Jeff High. To my knowledge they are not open all night...the McDonald's just a few hundred yards down the street is, and they don't have bulletproof glass. ;)

All you need are the wedges.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.
