Meet Roy Court, Master Distiller

by Jeremy Markle » Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:03 pm

Sorry for the late notice, but I wanted to let everyone know that we will have our distilling consultant, Roy Court, with us for one more night tonight before he heads back to Galway. Roy is leading a presentaion and tasting at Westport Whiskey & Wine tonight at 7pm featuring our newly released Town Branch Bourbon and our Single Malt Pearse Lyons Reserve. It is $15, everything included.

There's a good chance we'll end up behind the bar at AP Crafters afterwards for a beer too if you want to meet him for free. Here's Roy's bio:

Born in Scotland, after studying chemistry and mathematics in University, Roy went to work for Associated British Maltsters in 1960, carrying out research work into malting and whiskey production. In 1963, he was appointed chief chemist for William Grant and Sons.

In 1965, he moved to Ireland to work for John Jameson and Son as a development distiller. The company merged to form Irish Distillers, and Roy filled a number of senior management roles. In 1982, he left Irish distillers, to set up a consultancy business in the West of Ireland. From then until the present he has worked for a number of companies, and has worked in the production of whiskey and other products, and new product development. He lives with his wife Noreen, who is a flavourist and company partner.
