More on Marketplace at Theatre Square

by Deb Hall » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:48 pm

I'd pushed my boss( actually all our Execs) to go to Theatre Square because I really thought he'd love the place and the food. Nothing happened; he travels alot so eating out is not a priority.

Saturday night late I suddenly hear a text ( I get very few). Checking my phone, I see it's from my boss- never a good sign on a Saturday night! I open it, anxious to find out what the emergency is that will consume the rest of my evening. Here's what it said:

Theatre Square is now in my top 5.

Thought you'd like to know, Dallas. :D

Thanks for sending them downtown Deb! We are working hard getting ready to go the Beard House next week and we are also doing a little remodel in the front dining area. We consolidated our market into our wine shop and have turned that area into a very cool seating space. It adds about 60 more seats to the restaurant and makes for a great entrance into the space. I hope to see you in for dinner sometime soon to check it out!

Dallas,

Sounds great! Ironically, I'll be in next week ( the 14th) for a business dinner- you should have a reservation already. :D I'd hoped to see some baby pictures, but sounds like I'll have to be happy with the fantastic food and the new space. All the best at Beard House!

We dined at Marketplace for the first time last Saturday evening and walked away very impressed.

Immediately, we were impressed by the atmosphere, classy, without being stuffy. We also appreciated both the size of the tables and the space left between them.

Our service was somewhat slow due to an apparent staffing issue and a few rogue diners who chose to seat themselves, but that is only a minor complaint, as we were in no hurry, and once I had my first drink, I really thought nothing of it.

We started with the rosemary parmesan truffle fries and the flatbread with mozzarella, ricotta and caramelized onions, and both were outstanding. At first I thought it was odd that the fries came with no dipping sauce, but after tasting them, I understood. We had to ask for a box for half of the flatbread so that we had any chance of eating our entrees.

I ordered the short rib and she opted for the sea bass special with a jalapeno sauce that managed to capture all of the flavor of the pepper, but with only a little bit of heat, as to not overwhelm the fish.

Both were delicious. My girlfriend, who almost always takes some leftovers home, cleaned her plate, and I ate a short rib and egg breakfast the next morning.

We will definitely be back.
