South African wine dinner Dec. 13 at Varanese

South African Wines from the De Wet family will be featured at Varanese's next wine dinner, Tuesday, Dec, 13, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the restaurant, 2106 Frankfort Ave.
 
The De Wet family owns Leatherwood Saddlebred Horse Farm in Paris, Ky., as well as vineyards in South Africa. The guest speaker will be Barry Downing, Toast of Kentucky wine representative. 
 
Cost is $65./person plus tax and gratuity.
Vegetarian and/or food only options available.

Arabella - Sauvignon Blanc
Grilled Cobia served over White Grape, Watercress and Pine Nut Couscous with Citrus Reduction

2nd Course

Slow Braised Pork Osso Buco served with Sautéed Spaghetti Squash and Wild Mushrooms Finished with a Natural Pan Sauce

Stupendous! My favortie courses were the first - I loved the texture of cobia plus the grapefruit reduction played oh so well with the Sauvignon Blanc - and the fourth - a flawless mix of flavors and textures.

Mr. De Wet was ill so the speaker was Barry Downing, as first announced.

And BIG NEWS - Chef Varanese announced that he had been invited to prepare a dinner at the JAmes Beard House.
