J. Gumbo's (Corydon) Has Beer'd Up!

by Shane Campbell » Thu Dec 01, 2011 8:01 pm

I walked in today for some “to go” jambalya and was surprised to see signs advertising beer. Neesha Patel (owner) was excited to tell me that they were trying it out and their initial offerings were two Abitas (Amber, Purple Haze), Bell's (Two Hearted), BBC (Bourbon Barrel Stout), and Brooklyn Brewing (Pilsner). She said they had their first tasting last night (Wed).

Neesha mentioned that while business had been brisk upon opening (June?), it had slowed a bit since it turned cold out and she was just looking for something else to distinguish J. Gumbo's from the rest of Corydon's dinning options.

This may do it. As far as I know, no other restaurant in Corydon has craft beer on offer. I end up in Corydon several times a month for lunch. J. Gumbo's has been a welcome new option for me among the few fast food restaurants I patronize there.

Now that they have good beer, I will definitely eat there more often. Good luck Neesha and staff!

Speaking of Corydon, I heard a rumor that Magdelena's on the Square is having lease problems and may close/move at the end of the year.

I heard that myself today. I also heard the Christmas Goose may not reopen after the New Year. I did a bit of X-mas shopping on the square today and it would be a shame to lose those two businesses.

Two posts from Magdalena's FB page:

We are united in purpose, vision, passion and dreams. MAGDALENA'S WILL NOT BE CLOSING....BUT, KNOW THIS....WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! COME ONE AND COME ALL! SPREAD THE WORD FAR AND WIDE....THAT WE WILL WAIT UPON THE LORD AND MOUNT UP WITH WINGS LIKE AN EAGLE AND FLY! ..........please spread this like wildfire and stay posted for additional opportunities to stand with us in faith. (Nov 30) Well, it is time to share the following information, only because we believe that one of you have a referral, suggestion, idea or a piece of information that will allow us to continue our 20 year legacy of hospitality.

On Wednesday before Thanksgiving I spoke with Michael Wiseman, our building owner, and he informed me that he was in the process of forming an LLC with a group of investors and he asked us to close Magdalena's by the end of the year. (5 weeks from when he called.) Now 4 weeks away.

Please know that it is our desire to REMAIN OPEN...and all we know to do is pray for an opportunity to continue serving Kentuckiana in an honorable and professional manner. So here's where you come in.

If you know anyone who has a restaurant for us to move into asap...please call me: 502-930-7282. If you know anyone that would like to purchase the coffee shop equipment as a package deal....let us know asap. We have much to consider and we need your help. If you want to see Magdalena's continue....please direct everyone on your fb pages to our fb page and "like" us.
