Voice-Tribune/LHB: Always popular Rick's

by Robin Garr » Fri Oct 12, 2007 9:03 am

<table border="0" align="left" width="310"><tr><td><img src="http://www.louisvillehotbytes.com/ricks07.jpg" border="1" align="left"></td></tr></table>Always popular Rick's
(<b>Rick's Ferrari Grille, <i>Voice-Tribune</i>, Oct. 11, 2007</b>)

According to long-established wisdom, one good way to detect an excellent Chinese restaurant is to look for the places where Chinese people eat. In much the same way, a happy, diverse mosaic of American diners generally signals an excellent American restaurant.

And so it is with <b>Rick's Ferrari Grille</b>, an established St. Matthews tradition that rarely fails to attract a crowd.

After a series of moves over the years, restaurateur Rick Dissell has been back in his original Chenoweth Square location for 2 1/2 years now, and it looks like he's back to stay. (In a curious trivia point, the building sits on the exact location that once housed The Voice-Tribune's offices back in the '70s. I think my dinner table the other night may have been just about exactly where my desk used to be.)

However, the old newspaper office never looked so good.

Great Write Up

by Bill Veneman » Fri Oct 12, 2007 3:43 pm

The only part I find surprising is the part about not offering dessert, however, knowing the portions as well I as do from the numerious times I've been there, I never have room to indulge. Well, ok, RARELY have room to indulge.

OH, and don't forget Thursday evenings is 1/2 price bottles of wine.
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

Bill, I assume they have desserts, but for what it's worth, the server - who had been helpful and attentive - sure didn't offer the dessert or coffee option. We finished out main courses, she came out at the end and basically put down a check. We looked at each other, realized that we were full (and with a doggie bag to go!) and shrugged and went home. :)

At the risk of repetition, my point (which I <i>thought</i> was clearly stated, but obviously not) was that I was surprised that the server brought out a check after our main course, put it down, thanked us for coming, and didn't ask if we wanted coffee or dessert.

I didn't feel actively rushed, but the transaction struck me as a little odd. But I didn't mean to imply that they don't <i>have</i> dessert!
