Will,

A few of my favorites (that are open on Mondays) are Table 310, Dudley's on Short, and Portofino, all downtown, and AZUR, which is out in the Beaumont Centre.

We just recently ate at Table 310, and I highly recommend it. The focus is small plates, cheese, and charcuterie, with a continuously rotating selection of entrees. We were really impressed.

Brad,
Thanks so much, those all look really good and are on the short list. Do you have any suggestions on the more casual side? This is film crew in from out of town and the tastes and budgets are varied.

Unfortunately, when we're in Lexington it's usually as part of a weekend away and we tend to eat at the more upscale places, so I don't really have casual suggestions. Table 310 certianly can be quite budget friendly if you stick to the small plates and share some meats, etc., and it's more urban trendy inside than upscale. I'd say anything goes, attire-wise.

I've never been, but have heard good things about Ramsey's Diner (a few locations, but the original is downtown on High) and Sahara Mediterranean. Both are relatively inexpensive and casual.

We live in Lexington. My wife and I won't put up with much freeze-dried, industrial chain-style food these days, so here's where we go when we want cheap and casual (but aren't willing to drive to Louisville!)

Joe Bologna's is pretty good american-italian. They make most of their breads, sauces, and soups in-house, and they are cheap. 120 West Maxwell Street Lexington, KY 40508-2530

Mellow Mushroom pizza is a chain, but their crust is freshly made. 503 South Upper Street Lexington, KY 40508-2919

El Rancho Tapatio is a nice mexican option. Their menu combines the combo-plate options of a standard US. tex-mex restaurant with a page full of more authentic Taqueria-style options (tacos with lengua and tortas, for instance) all in a very friendly, clean, sit-down environment. A great place for both foodies and folks who enjoy less-adventurous fare. 144 Burt Road, Lexington, KY 40503. Cheap! My wife and I eat here once a week. Faves: Taqueria-style tacos with lengua, carnitas, or barbacoa. Tortas with barbacoa. Caldo De Res: awesome soup with almost a whole steak in it (it's sometimes a bit luke-warm when they bring it out, so ask for it HOT!).
